Comedian John Bishop took on a grueling challenge to raise money for Sport Relief! Don’t miss the special programme which shows how John was tested to the limit when he cycled, rowed and ran more than 295 miles from Paris to London in just five days.
The 45-year-old started his journey in Paris at 8am on 27th February and didn’t arrive in Calais until nearly 3am, a punishing day of cycling 185 miles. After very little sleep, day two saw John row across the choppy waters of the English Channel to Dover with the help of celebrity friends TV presenter Davina McCall, athlete Denise Lewis and cricketer Andrew Flintoff.
Back on British soil, John had to start the first of his three marathons in three days, which saw him run from Dover to Faversham, passing through Lydden, Shepherswell, Bridge, Canterbury, Dunkirk and Boughton. Along the way, he was once again joined by some famous faces for support – Comedy Dave from The Chris Moyles Show and TV presenter Dermot O’Leary.
Despite being in a lot of pain, John pushed on through day four of the challenge and ran 28 miles from Faversham to Gravesend via Sittingbourne, Rainham and Rochester, this time joined by his wife, as well as Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles and comedian Frank Skinner.
Day five, the final day of John’s “Week From Hell” saw John start his run in Gravesend, passing through Dartford and Bexleyheath and being joined by footballer Robbie Savage and his sons. His challenge ended in Trafalgar Square in London, where he was met by hundreds of supporters cheering him along and comedian Jason Manford, who announced John had raised over £1 million pounds.
Sport Relief is a charity that was set up in 2002, when Comic Relief and BBC Sport collaborated to make the new charity which would combine sport and fundraising for people who are living in challenging circumstances in both the UK and across the world.
To date, John challenge has raised more than £1.6 million. Don’t miss John Bishop’s Week of Hell on Thursday 22nd March 2012 at 21:00 on BBC1.
