Fans of comedy – don’t miss out on the Margate Easter Bank Holiday Comedy Weekend In support of Comic Relief brought to you by Beeping Bush Productions, The Dreamland Trust and Tom Thumb Theatre.
This Bank Holiday weekend, Margate’s historic Theatre Royal will host a selection of classic comedy, new stand-up acts and short comedy films as well as a special screening of the Laurel and Hardy film Them Thar Hills which was the first film ever shown in the Dreamland Cinema in1935.
The weekend also has a special April Fool’s day screening of the films that were entered into the ‘2 Day’s Laughter Competition’, an open competition giving filmmakers, comedians and writers the opportunity to produce a comedy short showcased in front of a public audience.
Amongst the applicants are 11 Kent-based filmmakers, three of which are from Thanet. The competition will be judged by a panel of industry professionals, including BBC television and Radio 4 comedy writer and presenter Jon Holmes, The Times film critic Damon Wise and Time Out’s comedy editor Ben Williams.
The evening will be hosted by comedian Nick Wilty and will also feature a talk on the history of cine-variety by Dr Oliver Double from the University of Kent, and a late night after party at Westcoast Bar, Margate Harbour.
