As part of the 5th annual Swale Film Festival, the Kent Film Awards are back and open for entries to young people across Kent – so get making your short films and enter now!
The short film competition is open to individuals and groups and prizes include film making equipment and a trip to the world-famous Pinewood or Shepperton Studios!
The submission can be a documentary, drama, horror, music video and filmed on any type of equipment; even a mobile phone! It must be between 5 and 10 minutes long and there are two age groups:
– Ages 10 to 15 years
– Ages 16 to 21 years (or 25 for special needs groups)
Entries will be judged by a panel of filmmakers and they will be looking at the script, cinematography and sound skills, set and costume, make up, editing and the ability of the performing artists.
Director of the Kent Film Awards, Ken Rowles said: “These awards are open to everyone. You can use professional equipment if you have access to it or you can film on your mobile phone or tablet. There is no theme this year because we wanted to leave it completely open.
“Winning films in previous years have been horror movies, action thrillers, personal stories, animations and dramas, but you can make a documentary, a fantasy, whatever you like. One of the winners of our first awards in 2008 has just been accepted onto a media course at the London Film School and two winners from the following year now run their own production company. Entering the Kent Film Awards could provide you with the experience and contacts to begin a career in the film industry.”
The deadline is Monday 26th August 2013.
The Swale Film Festival has been running since 2008 as a way to develop interest in film and this year will run from 5th to 8th September 2013. There will be screenings of blockbusters and local films as well as the Kent Film Awards ceremony which will be held at the Avenue Theatre, Sittingbourne on Sunday 22nd September at 2.00pm.
