Presenter Fern Britton, actor Brian Cox, actresses Felicity Kendal and Kiera Chaplin and author Barbara Taylor Bradford delve into the lives of their Victorian ancestors to uncover stories of heartache and sadness as well as tales of extraordinary triumph.

Fern Britton visited Wrotham and Plaxtol to investigate how her great, great, great grandfather, Friend Carter ended up in a workhouse in the area and the struggles he faced.

Wrotham and Plaxtol are two neighbouring villages in Tonbridge and Malling. Both are picturesque and have the usual amenities such as a school, pubs and a church and had workhouses in Victorian times.
