In a new BBC Two series, author and broadcaster Simon Reeve retraces the exciting adventures of British pilgrims exploring the faith, hopes and desires that keep them on the road. Meeting inspirational modern travellers, Simon visits some extraordinary sights and learns about the forgotten aspects of pilgrimage.
In the first episode, Simon sets out on a 500-mile journey from the Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the coast of Northumberland to Canterbury. The production visited Canterbury in May 2013 to visit the shrine of Thomas Beckett at Canterbury Cathedral.
Canterbury is a vibrant City in East Kent that offers a variety of locations ranging from the modern day city, parks and open spaces, shopping areas to neighbouring quaint, traditional towns. Previous productions that have shot in Canterbury include Martin Lewis Money Show – The Twelve Saves of Christmas (2013) Bargain Hunt (2012), and A Canterbury Tale (1944).
Pilgrimage with Simon Reeve will be shown on Tuesday 3rd December 2013 at 21:00 on BBC Two.
