Back for a sixth series is popular BBC One drama Call the Midwife based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth. The show follows a group of Midwives working in the East End of London between the late 1950’s to early 1960’s.

The news series picks up from the 2016 Christmas special, where the midwives return from their South African adventure to find Sister Ursula (Harriet Walter) will remain in charge of Nonnatus House, above Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter). Whilst dealing with the changes, they help a heavily pregnant mother whose husband has just been released from prison whilst Sister Mary Cynthia (Bryony Hannah) struggles with anxiety following an attack.

Call the Midwife is created and is written by Heidi Thomas (Ballet Shoes, I Capture the Castle) and directed by James Larkin (City Slacker, Wolf Hall).

The series is narrated by Vanessa Redgrave (Mission: Impossible, Deep Impact) and stars Helen George (The Three Musketeers, The Monster), Jenny Agutter (The Avengers, Captain America: Winter Soldier), Bryony Hannah (Jupiter Ascending, Cemetery Junction), Ben Caplan (RocknRolla, Leap Year), Emerald Fennell (The Danish Girl, Anna Karenina), Charlotte Ritchie (Fresh Meat, Siblings)  Judy Parfitt (Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Syndicate) and Harriet Walter (Sense and Sensibility, The Young Victoria).

The Call the Midwife once again returned to The Historic Dockyard Chatham where they filmed street scenes, the tennis courts and interior scenes at the Tarred Yarn Store and the Commissioners House.
