ITV’s new six part thriller, Liar, follows the relationship between teacher Laura Newell (Joanne Froggatt) and the father of one of her pupils, Andrew Ellis (loan Gruffudd). Their simple attraction leads to deceit and betrayal which has wide reaching consequences for both families.
The series was written by Harry and Jack Williams (BBC: One of us) and directed by James Strong (BBC: Doctor Who 2006-2009) and Samuel Donovan (CH4 Humans, Jamestown – Sky One). The cast is lead by Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey, A street Cat named Bob) and Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic 4, Titanic).
They are supported by Zoe Tapper (Mr Selfridge, Reunited) and Warren Brown (Luther, By Any Means).
The series is set in the seaside town of Deal where the crew visited last winter to film in various locations including Walpole Bay, giving the show an eerie and intense visual feel.
Deal is a town on the south coast of Kent with a long naval history as one of the major Cinque Ports. Previous projects to have filmed in the area include The Tunnel: Sabotage (2016) and Legacy (2013).
Walpole Bay is located in the popular seaside town in Margate and offers a long sandy beach, promenade and tidal swimming pool.
Liar starts on Monday 11th September at 9pm on ITV.
