After Summer 2012 saw a successful Olympic Games, followed by an extraordinary Paralympics, Channel 4’s Teenage Superhumans looks at the stories of Team GB’s most successful young stars, including double gold medal winning wheelchair sprinter Hannah Cockroft, amputee sprinter and 100m gold medal winner Jonnie Peacock and table tennis silver and bronze medal winner Will Bayley from Tunbridge Wells.
Paralympian Rachel Latham presents the show and talks to these inspiring youngsters to explore the sacrifices they have made in the pursuit of success, how they coped with being thrust into the media spotlight and what motivated them to push to the top in the high-pressure world of elite sport.
Will Bayley was born with the rare condition Arthrogryposis which affected all four of his limbs and at 7 years old, he was tragically diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. During his recovery, he began playing table tennis and now, at 24 years old, he has won Paralympic silver and bronze Medals.
The team visited Will’s hometown of Tunbridge Wells to visit the place he grew up in. Other TV programs filmed previously in Tunbridge Wells include ITV’s Britain’s Best Bakery (2012), In The Best Possible Taste With Grayson Perry (2012), and How to Look Good Naked (2009).
Teenage Superhuman’s will be shown on Channel 4 on Saturday 15th December, at 7:00.
