Animation fans were spoilt for choice at this year’s sixth annual Anifest at the start of October, with over 2,000 people visiting the Canterbury festival to enjoy talks, screenings and workshops from some of the biggest names in animation.
Anifest is the South East’s only annual animation festival and invites people of all ages to come and experience the magic of animation. Highlights included guest speaker talks from Pixar, the creators of Toy Story, DreamWorks, the studio behind Shrek and Aardman Animations, the creators of Pirates.
Dan Richards, Festival Director said: ‘This year our audience doubled in size from the previous two years and has shown that Canterbury has a great appetite for animation.
Standing in front of 450 people for the Pixar talk was a real highlight for me, with people aged 8 to 80 enjoying the event. This was our plan when we took over the festival three years ago and it’s great to have been able to do it here in Canterbury.
It was a fantastic weekend with speakers, volunteers and the audience all enjoying animation at its best. Anifest is about giving everyone an insight into animation, to inspire them to be creative and to follow their passion for art. From the feedback, we seem to have achieved just that.”
Here is some of the feedback from the visitors:‘Its fantastic to see Canterbury as the host of such a wonderful festival. Well done!’
‘Inspiring films & inspiring talks… I feel inspired &what a bargain!’
‘It was very exciting, my four year old laughed and loved the slug making and two ten year olds loved the talks – funny and interesting!’
‘A brilliant event that brings the enthusiasm and talent of animators together, and best of all locally to Canterbury.’
