Kent Graduate Joel Hopkins latest film, Last Chance Harvey, starring Academy Award winners Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman, is due to be released on DVD in November. Hopkins, who studied for his BA Honours in Art and Design and Radio, Film and Television Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University, wrote and directed the film.

Last Chance Harvey is not Joel’s first film, as his first feature Jump Tomorrow earned him a BAFTA and he has since written scripts for many production companies including Working Title Films.

Harvey Shine (Hoffman) is a jingle writer on the edge of losing his job; he is given one last chance to prove himself at a meeting on Monday morning. Leaving New York for the weekend, Harvey travels to London to attend his estranged daughter’s wedding. At the rehearsal dinner his daughter asks her step-father to give her away. Devastated, Harvey decides to cut his losses and return to LA. However, at the airport his boss calls him to let him go.  Then he meets beautiful Kate (Thompson) who tries to persuade him to return to his daughter’s wedding reception.

The DVD comes out on the 2nd November 2009
