LifelineBBC’s monthly television charity appeal programme, came to Kent when a resident from Shepway appealed for awareness about the condition of Osteoporosis.

For more than 25 years the Lifeline appeal has helped raise money for and increased the profile of hundreds of charities across the UK and abroad.

Each month Lifeline focuses on one charity’s appeal. This month’s appeal features Craig Revel Horwood (Strictly Come Dancing, John Bishop’s Britain) who promotes awareness for The National Osteoporosis Society.

Osteoporosis is a condition which affects the bones, causing them to become weak and fragile and more likely to break or fracture. Around three million people in the UK suffer with the condition.

As the patron of the charity, Craig talks about his life-long passion for dance, keeping fit and the importance of strong bones. He also focuses on how the charity helps people affected by the disease and how the charity can help those suffering in silence.

Lifeline visited a Folkestone local who speaks on how they live with the condition and commends the help that The National Osteoporosis Society provides. The programme’s aim is to promote the charity and create awareness around the UK in the hope that the charity will grow.

Folkestone is situated in the district of Shepway on the southern edge of the North Downs. With many picturesque views and beautiful beaches Folkestone is a popular location for filming, including productions such as Is Anybody There?’ (2009) and Mud Men (2012).

The Lifeline Appeal airs on BBC One on Sunday 15th July 2012 at 16:45pm
