Queens of Mystery (2020-2021) follows the adventures of detective Matilda Stone (Olivia Vinall – Series 1; Florence Hall – Series 2) and her three crime writing aunts Cat Stone (Julie Graham), Jane Stone (Siobhan Redmond), and Beth Stone (Sarah Woodward) as they attempt to solve crimes in the picturesque English village of Wildemarsh.

Created and written by Julian Unthank (Doc Martin, New Tricks), with Mathew Thomas (Marcella (2016), The Chameleon) writing four episodes, each series consists of three murder mysteries told in six episodes.

The principal cast includes Julie Graham (Survivors, Shetland), Siobhan Redmond (The Smoking Room, Captives) and Sarah Woodward (The Merry Wives of Windsor) with Florence Hall (The Princess Switch: Switched Again, The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star) joining in Series 2 to take over from Olivia Vinall (The Woman in White, Where Hands Touch). Other regulars include Martin Trenaman (The Inbetweeners Movie, PhoneShop), Andrew Leung (Cruella, Lilting), Michael Elcock (The Grey Tarmac Road) and Rebecca Grant (Holby City, Showtrial). Juliet Stevenson (Bend it Like Beckham, Truly Madly Deeply) was Emmy-nominated as a narrator in Series 1 and reprises the role for Series 2.

Queens of Mystery‘s impressive guest cast have included Josette Simon (Wonder Woman (2017), The Witches), Nancy Carroll (The Crown (2016-2023), Stephen), Mark Heap (Friday Night Dinner, Stardust), Danny Webb (Humans (2016), Liar (2017-2020)), Michelle Collins (EastEnders, Death in Paradise), Omid Djalili (His Dark Materials, Lucky Man), Emma McDonald, Charlie Maher (The Titans That Built America, Black Narcissus), Rufus Hound (Trollied, Zapped), Sarah Hadland (Miranda, Horrible Histories (2019-2023)), Sara Stewart (Batman Begins, Doctor Foster) and Colin McFarlane (Outlander, Little Princess).

Series 2 sees lead director Ian Emes return to direct two of the three murder mysteries, with Theresa Varga (Secret Life of Boys, Hetty Feather (2015-2020)) directing the middle block. Both series’ make use of multiple filming locations in Kent.

Production visited several locations in Farningham for the hero village of Wildemarsh. Beth’s cottage, which features throughout Series 1 and 2, was filmed on the Mill Estate. In Series 2, the exterior of the doctor’s surgery as well as of Victoria Durrell’s (Selina Griffiths) and Henry Wade’s (Aki Omoshaybi) houses and Rachel’s Papers shop were also filmed on the Mill Estate. Wadard Books on the High Street doubles as the Murder Ink bookshop and Jane’s house. Farningham Village Store also features as Wildemarsh Village store and the entrance to The Corn Exchange Theatre in Series 1. Farningham has previously been used as a filming location for Flesh and Blood (2020).

Production used Lympne Castle as Hiddledean Castle in the Series 1 episode entitled Murder in The Dark. Lympne Castle is an unspoiled 13th century Manor in the Folkestone & Hythe district of Kent that boasts stunning views of the Romney Marsh. It has previously been used as a filming location for The Honourable Woman (2014) and Great Expectations (2012).

In the Death By Vinyl episode in Series 1, Stoneydale craft shop in Cranbrook was converted into the The Sound and Fury record shop in Wildemarsh. Cranbrook also features as the High Street throughout both series. In the Series 2 episode Sparring with Death, Part 1, St Dunstan’s Church and graveyard in Cranbrook feature when Matilda and Beth visit the grave of Beth’s husband.

St Michael’s Churchyard in Smarden was used as the Wildemarsh churchyard, and a private residence in Water Lane featured as the village’s Embittered Hack Pub in Series 1. Productions that previously filmed in Smarden include The Mirror Crack’d (1980).

Woodchurch Windmill in Ashford features as the exterior of Wildemarsh Windmill throughout both series. The view from the mill to the village below also features throughout.

Series 2 of Queens of Mystery was released on AcornTV on Monday 29th November 2021.

Paani Ch Madhaani (2021)

Paani Ch Madhaani (2021) follows the story of Gulli (Gippy Grewal), a rising star in the music world in 1980, who is waiting for his big break. Eventually, Gulli decides that the secret to success is becoming a duo and teams up with another singer, Gazal (Neeru Bajwa). The film follows the ups, downs and hardships of trying to make it in the business, and a burgeoning friendship that may turn into romance.

The rom-com was directed by Vijay Kumar Arora (Prince’s Son, A Flying Jatt) and stars Neeru Bajwa (Munda Hi Chahida, Shaada), Gippy Grewal (Daaka, Ardaas Karaan) and Rene Costa (Holby City, Jawaani Jaaneman).

During filming, production visited Herne Bay, Canterbury, and Ramsgate Marina.

Scenes at Herne Bay include shots of the Clock Tower, Pier and Central Parade. Herne Bay is a coastal seaside town near Canterbury and is known for its 2-mile-long coastline, colourful beach huts, promenade, pier, and historical bandstand. Many productions have filmed here before including High End Yaariyaan (2019) and Two Weeks to Live (2020).

Production filmed a romantic song at Ramsgate Marina. Ramsgate is a thriving seaside town with beautiful Victorian terraced housing, a Marina, Port and Promenade. It often doubles for period London streets. Productions such as The Flood (2019) and Juliet, Naked (2018) have previously filmed here.

Scenes were also filmed in Canterbury City Centre. Canterbury is a historic cathedral city; the Cathedral is amongst the oldest in England. The city is a popular tourist destination which boasts a modern shopping complex with many restaurants and bars. Canterbury Prison is a popular filming location, with recent productions including Break (2020) and Avengement (2019).

Paani Ch Madhaani was released in select UK cinemas on Friday 5th November 2021.

Bull (2021)

Bull (2021) depicts the story of ex-gang member Bull, who, after mysteriously disappearing 10 years ago, has now returned to his old hunting ground with only one thing on his mind: Revenge. Embarking on a search for his missing son, Bull will stop at nothing to ensure that those who double-crossed him pay for their sins. A brutal and suspenseful revenge thriller, at its core, Bull (2021) is the story of a father’s eternal love for his son.

Written and directed by Paul Andrew Williams (London to Brighton), Bull (2021) stars Neil Maskell (Kill List, Happy New Year, Colin Burstead) as the titular character Bull, David Hayman (Fisherman’s Friends, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas) as Norm, and Tamzin Outhwaite of Eastenders-fame as Sharon.

The production visited several locations across Kent for their shoot. The Temple Hill housing estate in Dartford appears throughout the film, as the location of Gemma’s (Lois Brabin-Platt) house and Dave’s (Jay Simpson) flat. Dartford Working Men’s Club also features as the pub where Norm (David Hayman) warns Bull (Neil Maskell) to stay away from Gemma. Holy Trinity Church in Dartford features at the end of the film, as Bull carries a teenage Aiden (Matthew Castle) into the church for salvation. Various roads in Dartford also appear, including an M25 underpass which features as the homeless camp Bull finds Aiden living in.

A private house in Gravesend doubles as the home of Bull’s mother Marge (Elizabeth Counsell). Forge Farm Meats in Tunbridge Wells appears as an abattoir, where Bull and Norm torture the owner.

Located on the border of Kent, Dartford is a historic market town which boasts one of the largest shopping centres in Europe. Perhaps best known for the Dartford Crossing and Bluewater Shopping Centre, Dartford’s combination of industrial and historical landscapes makes for a popular filming location. Previous productions that have filmed in Dartford include the SKY series Gangs of London (2020-2022), and The Escape (2018).

Set in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Tunbridge Wells is a historic spa town that offers a mix of independent shops and restaurants set alongside the colonnaded Pantiles and the picturesque High Street.  The area is renowned for its historic houses and gardens and has been a place of interest for over 400 years. Previous productions to shoot in Tunbridge Wells include the BBC sitcom The Cleaner (2021), Rupert, Rupert & Rupert (2019), and series 3 of Britannia (2021).

The maritime town of Gravesend is a popular filming location, due to its picturesque setting and rich history, including an unspoilt promenade, high street and two shopping centres. Other productions that have filmed here include the BBC TV spy thriller Killing Eve (2018-2022), which featured Nell’s Café in the first Series and the popular Netflix anthology TV series Black Mirror (2018), which used several locations across Gravesend for the hostage sequences in Series 5, Smithereens.

Bull was released in UK cinemas on Friday 5th November 2021.

Temple Series 2 (2021)

Temple (2021) is a British television show based on a Norwegian series about a surgeon who sets up an illegal medical research facility underneath Temple Tube Station to find a cure for his dying wife.

The series was created by Mark O’Rowe (Boy A, Intermission) and Series 2 is directed by Christopher Smith (Alex Rider, Curfew) with actor Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes, Shazam!) playing the lead Daniel Milton. Series 1 also co-starred BAFTA nominated actor Daniel Mays (Line of Duty, Des), Emmy nominated Carice van Houten (Game of Thrones, Black Book), Catherine McCormack (Braveheart, 28 Weeks Later) and Tobi King Bakare (Cursed, I May Destroy You) who are all set to reprise their roles for Series 2.

Amongst the new arrivals are dubious and deeply unpredictable underworld fixer Gubby, played by BAFTA-winner Rhys Ifans (Alice Through the Looking Glass, Berlin Station) and his poetic but frequently inebriated medical assistant, Dermot, played by Michael Smiley (Bloodlands, Luther).

A night-time sequence from Series 2 Episode 6 was filmed at the popular Nell’s Café in Gravesend. Production also filmed some driving sequences on various roads around Luddesdown in Gravesham, but we think these didn’t make the final cut.

Nell’s Café is situated along the A2 in Gravesend and previously hosted Killing Eve (2018-2022) and In the Long Run-Series 2 (2019).

Gravesend is a town in northwest Kent on the south bank of the Thames with a promenade, high street and two shopping centres. The Town’s Pier is the oldest remaining cast-iron pier in the world. Previous productions to film at Gravesend includes Black Mirror Series 5: Smithereens (2018) and Top Boy Series 3 (2019).

Series 2 of Temple aired on Sky Max and NOW TV on Thursday 28th October 2021 at 9pm and the entire series became available as a box set on release.

Shiddat (2021)

Shiddat (2021) is an Indian Hindi language romantic drama produced by T-Series and Maddock Films. The film was written by Shridhar Raghavan (War, Criminal Justice) and Dheeraj Rattan (Bhangra Paa Le, Khamoshi) and directed by Kunal Deshmukh (Raja Natwarlal, Jannat 2).

The cast is led by Sunny Kaushal (Bhangra Paa Le, Gold) as Khamid Siddiqui and Radhika Madan (Angrezi Medium, Pataakha) as Imayat Khan. Supporting cast includes Mohit Raina (Mrs. Serial Killer, Bhaukaal) as Zakir Siddiqui and Diana Penty (Khandaani Shafakhana, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi) as Roshna Ibrahim.

The production used the Port of Ramsgate as a double for Calais Port as a truck goes through border control and the men inside are caught.

The Port of Ramsgate offers thirty-two acres of dedicated Port Land including three modern Ro-Ro bridges and Water and bunker facilities on all berths. It has been used several times as a ‘stand-in’ for the Port of Dover and has previously hosted productions including Gypo (2005), Big Bad World (2013) and Will (2011).

Shiddat was released on Disney+ Hotstar on Friday 1st October 2021.

Sex Education Series 3 (2021)

Sex Education (2021) is a TV comedy series about teenage boy Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield (Merlin, Ashes to Ashes) with a sex therapist mother (Gillian Anderson (The Crown Series 1 – 6 (2016-2023), The Great (2020-2023)), who teams up with high school classmate Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa (Stonemouth, Bob Servant)) to set up an underground sex therapy clinic at school.

Produced by Eleven for Netflix, the series was written by Laurie Nunn (Pregnant Pause, Radiance) and directed by Ben Taylor (Year of the Rabbit (2019), Cockroaches). Series 3 starts with a slightly more grown up, sassier Otis. He is joined by three new characters; Jemima Kirke (Maniac, Girls) playing new headmistress Hope, Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter series, The Patriot) playing Peter Groff and songwriter Dua Saleh, in their acting debut as Cal, a nonbinary student.

During filming, production visited Shorncliffe Military Cemetery in Sandgate which doubles as a WWII cemetery in France in Episode 5, and The Hawthorne Trench near Canterbury which doubles as a WWII trench experience in France in the same episode. Production also visited the Harbour Arm in Folkestone Harbour to film a scene for Episode 7 with Maeve (Emma Mackey) and Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood) reuniting with Maeve’s younger sister. Sandgate is a village in the Folkestone and Hythe district of Kent, it has a pebble beach, two castles and Martello Towers. A recent TV drama filmed in the area which is due to air in 2022.

Hawthorne Trench, located in Elham near Canterbury, is an area of recreated World War One trench systems which totals over 250 metres. Currently the Trench consists of an Officers’ dugout, regimental aid posts, cookhouses, railway systems, latrines as well as front and second line which is connected by communication trenches. The trench is located on a 25-acre field with nearby woodland which can also be used for filming.

Folkestone is a seaside town with an elegant clifftop promenade, a coastal park, fishing harbour and Victorian cliff-top lifts. Folkestone Harbour is a popular filming location, recent TV dramas to film here include Back to Life Series 1-2 (2019-2021) and Pistol (2022).

Series 3 of Sex Education was released on Netflix on Friday 17th September 2021.

The Cleaner (2021)

The Cleaner (2021) is a BBC sitcom that tells the story of Paul ‘Wicky’ Wickstead, a state-certified cleaning technician, who is responsible for the removal of any signs of death from crime scenes. When carrying out his duties, he stumbles across the strangest of people: from the victim’s relatives, employers, neighbours, and acquaintances, to occasionally even the murderers themselves. And because he’s a sociable type, he sometimes gossips more than he cleans.

The six-part series was directed by Alex Winckler (My Mad Fat Diary, Traitors). Greg Davies (Cuckoo, Man Down) wrote the series and plays the lead role. Each episode features a different co-star; Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown Series 1 – 6 (2016-2023), The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) in Episode 1, David Mitchell (Peep Show, That Mitchell & Webb Look) in Episode 2, Stephanie Cole (Gentleman Jack, Doc Martin) in Episode 4, Layton Williams (Bad Education, Beautiful People) in Episode 5, and Jo Hartley (After Life, Eddie the Eagle) in Episode 6.

During filming, production visited several private residences in the Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone districts, and built a green screen set at Showfields Hall Community Centre in Tunbridge Wells. Each episode of the series focuses on a different crime scene, and Kent residences are the main locations for all but Episode 3.

The town of Sevenoaks boasts a varied landscape with acres of beautiful countryside, stately homes and castles as well as a thriving town centre. It is most known for being home to one of the oldest cricket grounds in the country – The Vine Cricket Ground. Previous productions to have filmed in the town of Sevenoaks include The Larkins (2021-2022), Making Noise Quietly (2019) and Parade’s End (2012).

Royal Tunbridge Wells is known for its Georgian and Victorian architecture, a shopping centre, bars, restaurants, and live music scene. Previous productions to visit the area include Catastrophe Series 4 (2019) and Queens of Mystery (2020-2021).

As the county town of Kent, Maidstone plays an important part in Kent’s history. The River Medway runs though the town centre linking it with other towns such as Rochester and Chatham. The Borough of Maidstone is a popular town for filming, previous productions include This Time With Alan Partridge – Season 2 (2021) and Hetty Feather Series 1 – 6 (2015 – 2020).

Episode 1 of The Cleaner aired on BBC One on Friday 10th September at 9.30pm. The full series was made available on BBC iPlayer on the same date.

Britannia Series 3 (2021)

Britannia (2021) is a historical fantasy TV drama set in 43 AD as the Roman Army returns to subjugate Britannia, which is populated by Celtic tribes that include warrior women and powerful druids. Series 3 sees a radical transformation in Cait’s (Eleanor Worthington-Cox) journey as the Chosen One with a decision that will tie her to the future of her war-torn people and their ravaged land.

The series was created by multi-award-winning writers Jez Butterworth (Spectre), his brother Tom Butterworth (Silent Witness) and James Richardson (Bulletproof). Epic, action packed, full of humour and terrifying in equal measure, Britannia is produced by Vertigo Films and Neal Street Productions in association with Sky Studios.

Britannia stars Gianni Calchetti (Cruella, The Third Day (2020)), Mackenzie Crook (Worzel Gummidge, The Office) and David Morrissey (The Walking Dead, The Missing) and, new to Series 3, Sophie Okonedo (The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses (2016)).

High Rocks in Tunbridge Wells features in Series 3 Episode 5 as the land of the Sunfolk, an all-female tribe of visually impaired warriors. High Rocks is a national monument and site of special scientific interest. It comprises acres of sandstone rocks linked by eleven bridges that provide a scenic walk through a tranquil woodland setting. The rocks were once a stone age camp and provided the perfect backdrop for this Celtic drama.

Tunbridge Wells is a popular filming location and previous drama productions to have visited the area are The Third Day (2020) and Queens of Mystery (2020-2021).

Britannia Series 3 was made available to stream on SKY Atlantic and NOW on Tuesday 24th August 2021.

Deceit (2021) is a powerful new TV drama based on the real-life events surrounding the investigation into the murder of Rachel Nickell on Wimbledon Common in 1992, in which Lizzie James, an undercover police officer, is tasked with baiting a suspected serial killer.

Directed by Niall MacCormick (The Durrells, Margaret Thatcher: The Long Walk to Finchley) Deceit stars Niamh Algar (Raised by Wolves, The Virtues) as Lizzie James, Karl Farrer (Flesh and Blood (2020), Angel Has Fallen) as a Police Officer and Paul O’Kelly (The Witcher (2023), Gangs of London (2020-2022)) as P.C O’Kelly.

The production visited Canterbury Prison and Shellness Beach during filming of the four-part miniseries for Channel 4. Shellness Beach has an area of mixed sand and shingle beach adjoining Shellness on the Isle of Sheppey. The beach is bordered by private chalets, some of which are available for filming. Both Dark Heart Series 1 (2018) and The Third Day (2020) have previously filmed here.

Canterbury Prison was sold to Canterbury Christ Church University in 2014 and is now part of the university campus. Most recently BBC TV dramas Small Axe (2020) and The Capture (2019) filmed at the prison.

Deceit will air on Channel 4 from Friday 13th August at 9pm. All episodes will be available to stream on All 4.

Varun (Anmol Dhillon) and Sia (Jhataleka Malhotra) do not trust relationships completely because of their upbringing. They try to figure out a way to live with their commitment issues by being a couple only on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Directed and written by Taranveer Singh (Kahat Hanuman Jai Shri Ram, Anni Dya Mzaak Ae by Whistle) the romantic comedy stars acting newcomer Anmol Dhillon as Varun and Jhataleka Malhotra (Femina Miss India) as Sia in the lead roles, supported by Zoa Morani (Yeh Crazy Dil, Bhaag Johnny) as Kajal and Niki Walia (Puncch Beat) as Dr. Radhika Malhotra.

Production filmed in Danemore Park for part of the filming. The house plays the role of a community home ran by Nimmi (Anuradha Patel), the mum of lead character Vahun Sarin. Various key scenes in the story take place at the house including one scene set during a fireworks party.

Danemore Park is a Grade II listed Georgian country house in 80 acres, with stable block, woodland and long driveway in the district of Royal Tunbridge Wells. The town is known for its Georgian and Victorian architecture, a shopping centre, bars, restaurants, and live music scene. Previous productions to visit the area include Catastrophe Series 4 (2019) and The Royals (2016-2018).

Tuesdays and Fridays was released on Netflix UK on Thursday 15th July 2021 after a delayed release due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
