Black Mirror (2011-) is a Netflix anthology series set in a dystopian future, with each episode focusing on unique individuals grappling with the effects of technology.

Created by Charlie Brooker (Dead Set, Screenwipe), the series originally aired on Channel 4 before moving over to Netflix for the third season. Season 7 has an all-star cast including Awkwafina (Ocean’s Eight, Crazy Rich Asians), Peter Capaldi (Foyle’s War – A War of Nerves (2004), Christopher Robin (2018)), Emma Corrin (Deadpool & Wolverine, Nosferatu), Paul Giamatti (Sideways, The Holdovers), Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation, The Social Network), Chris O’Dowd (The Crimson Petal and the White (2011), Bridesmaids), Issa Rae (Barbie, American Fiction), Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish, The High Note) and many others.

Production visited Kent to film Episode 5 ‘Eulogy’, starring Paul Giamatti (Sideways, The Holdovers) as Phillip. The emotional episode follows an isolated man who is introduced to a new technology which enables him to step inside old photographs. Beacon House in Whitstable doubles for Phillip’s house and Herne Bay Pier features as the Pier at Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Beacon House is a colonial wooden clapboard, turn-of-century beach house set on Tankerton beach in Whitstable. The grounds include wild woodland gardens, views out to sea and lines of beach huts. Catastrophe Series 4 (2019) and Series 1 of Whitstable Pearl (2021-2024) have also filmed at Beacon House.

The Tankerton Slopes are adjacent to Whitstable and consist of grassy banks covered in beach huts in front of a shingle beach. There are a number of kiosk style cafés, a yacht club and a beach front skate park. It is a popular filming location, having also featured in Zoe and the Astronaut (2018), The Tapes (2011) and The Things I Haven’t Told You (2008).

Herne Bay is a coastal resort and is home to the world’s first free-standing purpose built clock tower. Other productions to have filmed there include Joan (2024), Heartstopper (2022) and Kate & Koji (2020-2022).

Season 7 of Black Mirror (2025) was released on Netflix on Thursday 10th April 2025.

Juliet, Naked (2018)

Juliet, Naked (2018), starring Ethan Hawke, Rose Byrne and Chris O’Dowd, is a warm, smart and funny adaptation of the Nick Hornby novel of the same name and features an obsessive rock fan, his long-standing girlfriend and the mysterious rocker he idolises.

Starring Rose Byrne (Bad Neighbours 1 & 2, Peter Rabbit) as Annie, Ethan Hawke (Training Day, Before Sunrise) as rock star Tucker Crowe and Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, Moone Boy) as Duncan.

Home Farm in Swale was previously used in André Øvredals The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2017). Filming for Juliet, Naked at the American-style Home Farm took place in 2015 where the house and grounds were used.

Filming also took place in Ramsgate, which is a popular filming area and has been used in several films and TV series such as Hard Sun (2018) and The Tunnel: Sabotage (2016). Further scenes were also filmed on Viking Bay beach in Broadstairs, which recently featured in feature films Hurricane (2018) and The Lady in The Van (2015).

Juliet, Naked is due to be released in the UK in cinemas on 2nd November 2018.

In this feature by Disney Studios, AA Milne’s Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor), is a working man with a wife and family, who is helped by his childhood friends, Pooh (Jim Cummings) and Co. to rediscover the joy of living. Over a period of four weeks, production transformed the entire historic Grade II Listed Dover Marine Station, an old Victorian railway station at the Dover Cruise Terminal into a London railway station, including running trains. A short film for the end credits was also shot on Shakespeare Beach in Dover.

Starring Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge, Trainspotting) as Christopher Robin, Jim Cummings (The Princess and the Frog, Aladdin) as the voices of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger, The Duchess) as Robin’s wife Evelyn, Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond, Ratatouille) as Eeyore, Toby Jones (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Empire of Light (2023)) as Owl, Nick Mohammed (The Martian, Bridget Jones’s Baby) voices Piglet, Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who, The Thick Of It) as Rabbit and Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda, The Secret Life of Bees) as Kanga.

The Railway Station at Dover Western Docks was first opened in January 1915, to receive wounded soldiers during WWI via the newly built Dover Harbour in 1909 and dispatched them to hospitals across the UK with best possible speed. The Unknown Warrior was returned to Britain here before being laid to rest in Westminster Abbey. From 1919, the station served the civilian population wishing to take the Express Boat Train to the Continent, though during WWII, it once again served the military. After its closure in 1994, it has served as Dover Cruise Terminal 1 which opened in 1996.

Production for Christopher Robin (2018) in Dover started in September 2017 and the listed and fully intact station building of Cruise Terminal 1, was transformed back into a railway station, complete with trains, shops and almost 400 local extras providing the background of a busy London terminal for a few days. Cruise passengers were diverted to Terminal 2, which gave production unusual, sole use of a large station set.

Port of Dover PR & Media Relations Officer, Justine Wingate said: “Dover Marine Station here at the Port of Dover, is a unique and versatile location. Not just because it is a beautiful example of a Victorian railway station but it is situated in a large secure area with little public access and plenty of space for unit bases and equipment.
The team from Disney spotted its potential as a featured location straight away and did an outstanding job in bringing it to life for Christopher Robin.”

Kent Film Officer, Gabrielle Lindemann said: “Once the location was secured, the biggest challenge was to accommodate the sometimes additional two to three hundred crew and cast. Local businesses stepped up to provide additional unit support and Kent accommodation providers across the whole of East Kent hosted our visitors.
Christopher Robin presented Kent Film Office with a great opportunity to show the sector that the county can successfully host and manage large scale productions.”

Dover houses Europe’s busiest ferry port, connecting the UK with the European mainland. Dover Castle towers above the town, signalling Dover’s strategic importance in the defence of the country and the White Cliffs are one of the most recognised landmarks in Britain. Some other feature films shot around Dover are King Lear (2018), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Into the Woods (2015), and The Ones Below (2016).

The film was released in the UK on Friday 17th August 2018.

The Crimson Petal and The White (2011)

A four-part adaptation of Michel Faber’s international best-selling novel about Victorian Life.

In this four-part tale of love, lust, desire and rage, Victorian life is revealed in a way never seen before on screen.

The tale takes viewers into a hidden world in which a young prostitute and a prominent businessman embark on a dangerous relationship with epic consequences.

This version of Michel Faber’s novel, The Crimson Petal and The White, has been adapted by acclaimed playwright and screenwriter Lucinda Coxon (Wild Target, The Danish Girl) and directed by Marc Munden (Touching Evil, Utopia).

The four part series stars; Romola Garai (Atonement, Suffragette), Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, This Is 40), Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, The Fall), Richard E Grant (Withnail & I Downton Abbey), Shirley Henderson (Trainspotting, Bridget Jones’s Diary), Amanda Hale (Bright Star, Persuasion) and Mark Gatiss (Match Point, Sherlock).

The production visited Kent where they filmed on location at The Historic Dockyard Chatham and Eastgate House in Rochester.

The Historic Dockyard Chatham is a popular filming location in Kent due to its authentic period backdrops, including cobbled streets and Georgian as well as Victorian architecture. Victor Frankenstein (2015), Grantchester (2014), and The Golden Compass (2007) have previously filmed at The Historic Dockyard Chatham.

Eastgate House, situated on Rochester High Street, was formerly a large private town house. Built by Sir Peter Buck; it has now been restored and is owned by Medway Council. Productions such as Jekyll and Hyde (2015),  BBC’s The Mystery of Edwin Drood (2012) and Great Expectations (1989) have previously filmed in Rochester.

The Crimson Petal and The White will be shown on BBC Two on Wednesday 6th April at 21.00
