Based on a true story, Red Sandra (2021) follows the Massart family, who discover that their 6-year-old daughter Sandra has MLD, a rare muscular disease, and only has a year to live. Refusing to give up hope, the family embarks on a fierce battle against the pharmaceutical industry to try to save their daughter’s life.
Directed by Jan Verheyen (Het vonnis, Everything Must Go) and Lien Willaert (Het Geheugenspel, Bittersweet Sixteen), the film stars Sven de Ridder (Torpedo, Fair Trade) as William Massart, Darya Gantura (Cordon, Ella) as Olga Massart and Rosalie Charles as Sandra Massart.
William embarks on a protest walk to London via Eaton Road and Church Whitfield Road in Dover. He then camps overnight at a field off Sea View Road in St Margaret’s at Cliffe. Later, William’s family joins him in England, and they stay at the Dover Marina Hotel.
Dover is home to the busiest passenger port in the world, connecting the UK with the European mainland. Dover Castle towers above the town, signalling Dover’s strategic importance in the defence of the country and the White Cliffs are one of the most recognised landmarks in Britain. A popular filming location, Dover has also played host to Whitstable Pearl (2021-2024), The Tunnel: Sabotage (2016) and Missing (2009-2010).
St Margaret’s at Cliffe sits above St Margaret’s Bay between Dover and Deal on top of the White Cliffs of Dover. It has a small village centre and to the north on Leathercoat Point is the War Memorial commemorating the Dover Patrol, as well as the Blue Bird Cafe in the old Coast Guard station.
Red Sandra (2021) was released on Friday 17th September 2021 and is now available to watch on the Sky Store.
