Valobasha Emoni Hoy (2017) is a Bengali-language comedy film following two mercenaries who decide to go clean but are quickly caught up in a murderous love plot.
Directed by Tania Ahmed (Krishnopokkho, A Team), the film stars Mishu Sabbir (Thanda, To Be Continued…) as Mishu, Mir Sabbir (Raat Jaga Phool, Travel London) as Mahtab, Irfan Sajjad (Vhoyal, Criminals) as Sazzad and Bidya Sinha Saha (Jonakir Aalo, Poran) as Oishee.
Filming took place in a variety of Kent locations, including West Cliff Arcade, Madeira Walk Waterfall and other public highways in Ramsgate, the Oval Gardens in Margate, Minnis Bay, Louisa Bay, West Cliff Promenade and the North Foreland Lighthouse in Broadstairs and the Marlowe Theatre, Westgate Towers, Canterbury Cathedral and various other public highways in Canterbury.
Ramsgate is a thriving seaside town with beautiful Victorian terraced housing, marina, port and promenade. It is also the home of the only Royal Harbour in the UK, which is popular for filming. Ramsgate has also featured in The Tunnel: Sabotage (2016), The Soul of a Spy (2015) and Big Bad World (2013).
Margate is a seaside town complete with sandy beach, harbour, amusement park, period housing and ultra-modern art gallery Turner Contemporary. It is a very popular filming location and has also featured in The Tunnel: Vengeance (2017), Edge of Heaven (2014) and True Love (2012).
Minnis Bay is a long, rural sandy bay with rocky and shingle areas, promenade and paddling pool in Birchington-on-Sea. Facilities include a sailing club, windsurfing area, cafés, and children’s play area.
Louisa Bay in Broadstairs is a quiet, sandy 150m long bay with promenade. Facilities include a café and chalets.
Home to Charles Dickens’ Bleak House, Broadstairs is a seaside town with a sandy beach lined with beach huts, a band stand and large Victorian terraces. Other projects to have filmed there include The Lady in the Van (2015), Derek (2013) and The Calling (2009).
Canterbury is a historic city; many of its original structures remain including the Cathedral (which is among the oldest in England), as well as a city wall founded in Roman times. The city is a popular tourist destination which boasts a modern shopping complex and many restaurants and bars. Other productions to have filmed in Canterbury include Rustom (2016), A Canterbury Tale (1944) and The Veil (2024).
