BBC’s series Imagine returns this weekend with presenter and executive producer Alan Yentob. Imagine is an arts series which was first broadcast in 2003. The latest series contains three episodes. Each episode is based on a different topic, and two episodes were filmed in Kent.

Rose Wylie: This is Blooming

This first episode of the series, produced by Lindsey Hanlon, tells the story of artist Rose Wylie, now at the prime of her profession at the age of 83. Her unlikely subjects are drawn from the world around her – from footballers and popular movies, to memories of her childhood during the London Blitz, to the stuff of everyday life. Alan Yentob meets Rose Wylie and delves into her colourful world to discover how her memories and experiences have helped shape the artist that she is today.

This episode was filmed in the home of Rose Wylie near Faversham. Faversham is a beautiful historic market town in the Swale Borough of Kent. Previous productions which filmed there include Hetty Feather Series 3 (2018) and Walks With My Dog (2017).

The Rose Wylie episode will air this Sunday 22^nd July 2018 on BBC One at 10:30pm.

Tacita Dean: Looking to See

The second episode, produced by Katy Homan, focuses on the life of internationally renowned British artist Tacita Dean, who is exhibited in three of London’s leading galleries, and is celebrated for her works on analogue film. Alan Yentob joins Tacita Dean in various locations throughout the episode to discuss her poetic and thought-provoking work, and the medium which inspires her – film.

Tacita Dean grew up in the county of Kent and production visited various locations on the Romney Marsh to illustrate this, inclusing Whitehall Farm. Romeny Marsh covers around 100 square miles from Rye to Hythe and is renowned for its unique natural beauty. It has previously been used as a film location for British Art at War: Paul Nash – The Ghosts of War (2014) and Books That Made Britain – Writers of Rye (2016)

The Tacita Dean episode will air on Sunday 29^th July 2018 on BBC One at 10:30pm.

Long Lost Family: What Happened Next – Series 8 (2018)

Season 8 visits family members reunited on previous Long Lost Family series to see what happened after the initial reunion.

There will be three episodes catching up with Cathie Cutler Evans, John Ayton, and Maureen Charlton (episode 1); Marion Williams and James McDonnell, Ray Jones, and Laura Aker (episode 2); Deborah Ozturk, Mary Davies, and Vicki Haskell (episode 3).

Presented by Davinia McCall and Nicky Campbell the series visited Ramsgate for an update as well as recording presenter links with Davina McCall in and around Tonbridge and in Royal Tunbridge Wells throughout the series.

Ramsgate is a thriving seaside town with beautiful Georgian terraced housing, Marina, Port and Promenade. Often doubling for London streets. It has previously featured in TV productions such as The Tunnel: Sabotage (2016) and Hancock and Joan (2008).

Tonbridge is a riverside town with picturesque castle, churches and historic buildings. It was also featured in Long Lost Family Series 7 (2017) and other TV productions, including BBC’s Harry Potter: A History of Magic (2017) and Secret Britain (2016).

Royal Tunbridge Wells is a historic spa town that is renowned for the historic houses and gardens and has been a place of interest for over 400 years. It is popular in TV productions including Long Lost Family Series 7 (2017), The Royals (2016-2018) and Hunted Series 2 (2016).

The new season is released on 11^th June 2018 at 9pm on ITV, the following episodes will broadcast on 18^th and 25^th June.

Who Do You Think You Are? (2018)

Returning to our screens for its 15^th series, the hit TV series Who Do You Think You are? focuses on tracing back our much-loved celebrities’ ancestry, giving them the opportunity to discover family secrets.

DJ, presenter and former member of band JLS, Marvin Humes, travelled to Margate to investigate the history of his great grandfather, Frederick Buckingham. Frederick, who suffered from Tuberculosis, was admitted to the Margate Metropolitan Infirmary from a workhouse. Marvin also visits the beach as the seawater in Margate was important, being part of the treatment for the illness.

Frederick served in the merchant navy, so Marvin Humes meets expert Harry Bennett at Chatham Historic Dockyard where they talk about the importance of the merchant navy to the economy.

Written by Stuart Elliot, the series will feature eight well known celebrities: Michelle Keegan (Our Girl and former Corrie Star), Olivia Coleman (The Crown), Boy George (Musician, DJ, fashion designer and British icon), Shirley Ballas (Strictly Come Dancing’s Head Judge), Lee Mack (Comedian/Not Going Out), Marvin Humes (Former JLS member/Presenter), Robert Rinder (Barrister/Judge Rinder) and Jonnie Peacock (Gold medal winning Paralympian).

Margate is a seaside town in the district of Thanet in Kent, England. It is well known for its amusement park, Dreamland, which first opened in 1880. Having been closed for over seven years, Dreamland re-opened in June 2015 to the public, featuring retro seaside rides and amusements.

Dreamland and Margate haven used previously as a location in TV series The Tunnel: Sabotage (2016) as well as Only Fools and Horses: The Jolly Boys’ Outing (1989).

Ross Edgley’s Great British Swim 2018

This vlog series records Ross Edgley’s progress of swimming around the entirety of mainland Great Britain.

Ross Edgley is an UK strongman who previously rope climbed the height of Everest and who swam 100km in the Caribbean while tied to a tree. His new goal is to be the first man to swim around mainland Great Britain.

As part of his journey he plans not to touch shore until he returns to London’s Tower Bridge, an estimated 100 days later. He will only stop to sleep and eat on the support boat, from which he will plot the route and vlog his progress.

Watch Ross start his journey in Margate in episode 2 and get into a little trouble barely a couple of hours into his challenge when a deep fog catches up with him in Dover. Having successfully crossed the busiest shipping lane in Europe, The Dover Strait, he leaves the Kent coast behind in week one of his adventure.

Update: Ross Edgley has now completed his historic Great British Swim in Margate, surviving 157 days and 2,000 miles at sea in gruelling conditions!

Margate is a seaside town complete with beach, harbour, amusement park, period housing and ultra-modern art gallery, Turner Contemporary. Margate Harbour previously featured in TV productions, including ITV’s Britain’s Favourite Walks: Top 100 (2018) and BBC’s True Love (2012).

The Hospice

The Hospice is a new, ground-breaking series focusing on the lives of patients under the care of ellenor – a British hospice based in Gravesend, Kent that provides an individualized approach to end of life care.

The series was commissioned by Together and produced by Knickerbockerglory – the creators of Channel 5’s long running series GP: Behind Closed Doors.

The Hospice follows the deeply personal stories of adults and children who are receiving end-of-life care both in their own homes, and at the ellenor inpatient ward in Gravesend as well as the daily tasks of the many hospice workers and volunteers who are so essential to providing this service.

Together will broadcast the first of 13 hour-long episodes of ‘The Hospice’ on Tuesday 8th May at 10pm on Freeview, Sky, Virgin, freesat and on demand services, like TV Player.

Britain’s Favourite Walks: Top 100 (2018)

This new two-and-a-half-hour special for ITV pulls on its hiking boots for a countdown of Britain’s favourite walks. Britain’s Favourite Walks: Top 100, presented by Julia Bradbury (Countryfile) and Ore Oduba (The One Show), showcases the finest rambles, scrambles and ambles across the countryside and through cities to bring viewers the ultimate guide to the British outdoors.

Based on the results of the largest survey ever conducted, the top 100 have been voted for by more than 8,000 walking enthusiasts. Famous faces, including Ade Edmondson, Janet Street Porter and Robert Bathurst hit the trails to reveal their own favourites, joined by walking experts, nature aficionados and members of the public with extraordinary stories to provide a vivid insight into the the history of the trails.

The programme visits various locations in Kent on two walks, firstly the Ramsgate to Margate Walk featuring beautiful spots such as Kingsgate Bay and Botany Bay. The second walk, the Dover to Deal Walk features the stunning National Trust sites of the stunning White Cliffs of Dover and the charming South Foreland Lighthouse, as well as picturesque St Margarets at Cliffe and Deal.

The Kent Coastline is a popular location with TV productions for its dramatic scenery and convenient connections by road to London. Most recently it played a starring role in Sky Atlantic’s The Tunnel: Vengeance 2017 filmed entirely in Kent and Calais.

Kingsgate Bay, a small sandy bay surrounded by chalk cliffs that connects at low tide through Whiteness cliff arch to Botany Bay, was featured in Mr Selfridge Series 4 (2016), while both the White Cliffs of Dover and St Margarets Bay featured in Missing Series 1 & 2 (2009-2010).

David Jason’s Secret Service (2017)

Sir David Jason presents this three-part documentary series which reveals the secret places, people and stories from Britain’s 20^th Century spy history. Episode One explores the inception of the British Secret Service in 1909 by Sir Mansfield Cumming. In 1914, when the First World War broke out in Europe, this group of spies were crucial in securing Allied victories and Folkestone became the frontline for British spy organisations.

In June 2017, the production team filmed at various locations in Folkestone, including the clifftop promenade, The Leas.

The Leas boasts sea views to France and Folkestone itself is renowned for its Creative Quarter with many galleries, shops, relaxing bars and restaurants. Tourists can visit the Kent Battle of Britain Museum which pays homage to the aircrews that defended Britain during the Second World War or visit Folkestone Harbour to explore Kent’s maritime history.

The town has been used previously for filming by productions such as Who Should We Let In? Ian Hislop on the First Great Immigration Row (2017), not to mention the seaside episode for Darling Buds of May, starring Mr Jason himself (1991-1993).

The Channel: The World’s Busiest Waterway (2017)

The Channel: The World’s Busiest Waterway is an access-all-areas programme exploring the everyday workings of the Dover Strait. I addition to exploring the ocean there is also footage from inside the Channel Tunnel, including interviews with those who are responsible for maintaining the system that allows 17 million people to travel across the English Channel every year.

In June 2017, in addition to filming at Eurotunnel, the production team filmed with one of the commercial fleets based at Ramsgate Royal Harbour.

Ramsgate is accredited as the home to England’s only Royal Harbour, developed in 1976. The scenic and charming marina resides 35 miles from the western French coast. Ramsgate has been used for filming by productions such as The Apprentice (2015).

The Channel Tunnel is the rail tunnel connecting Folkestone in Kent to Calais in France in just 35 minutes. The Channel Tunnel has been used for filming by productions such as The Tunnel: Sabotage (2016).

The series starts on Wednesday 29^th of November 2017 at 9PM on Channel Four and the fisherman’s episode will be the third instalment of The Channel: The World’s Busiest Waterway, which airs on 13^th December 2017 at the same time.

Grand Designs RIBA House of the Year (2017)

Grand Designs is known for featuring awe inspiring domestic architecture, from ultra-modern builds to stylish period renovations. The House of the Year Award special will feature seven properties across the four episodes. The show will be presented by Kevin McCloud and the final Episode on 28th November will announce the 2017 winner of the Royal Institute of British Architects House Of The Year Award.

Episode 3 features Ness Point in St Margaret’s -at- Cliffe in East Kent.

St Margaret’s Bay is a small beach bay close to the famous white chalk cliffs. It is said this beach is where the sun first rises in the UK every morning. The area was once home to Noel Coward, Peter Ustinov and Ian Fleming. Other well-known programs and movies have been filmed here such as Missing (2009) and Poirot – The Clocks (2009)

The series started on Channel 4 on Tuesday 7th of November at 9pm. The Kent episode airs on 14th November.

Coast v Country (2017)

Coast v Country is a brand new property format for Channel 4, which showcases the most striking properties for sale in some of Kent’s most beautiful coast & countryside locations. The series is presented by property experts Sara Damergi, Kerr Drummond and property developers Kirsty Duffy and David Bull.

Dover is the site of the famous white cliffs of Dover and has been used in films such as Sherlock Holmes, a game of shadows (2011) and those magnificent men and their flying machines (1965)

Another well-known location, Canterbury Cathedral, is the oldest and most renowned cathedral in England; currently a world heritage site it has been previously used to film Last Orders (2002) and a Canterbury Tale (1944)

The new series of Coast v Country starts on Monday 30^th October at 4pm on Channel 4.

Episodes which feature Kent are due to air on 2^nd, 22^nd and 24^th November 2017.
