The Baby (2022) is a horror comedy series about 38-year-old Natasha who is furious that all her friends are having babies. When she is unexpectedly landed with one of her own, her life is thrown into turmoil. She doesn’t want a baby. But the baby definitely wants her.

Created by Lucy Gaymer and Sian Robins-Grace in their debut as TV writers, The Baby stars Michelle de Swarte (The Duchess) as Natasha, Sinéad Cusack (Waterland (1992), Marcella (2016)) as Barbara, Isy Suttie (Peep Show, Shameless) as Rita, Shvorne Marks (Breeders (2021), Endeavour) as Mags, and Amber Grappy (Wrecked) as Bobbi.

During filming, production visited various locations across Kent including Botany Bay, Nell’s Café in Gravesend, the Ramsgate Harbour Approach Tunnel, Acacia Sports Hall in Dartford, St Andrew’s Lake and Watersports Centre in Halling and The Quadrangle in Sevenoaks.

Botany Bay is a very popular filming location due to its sandy beach, rock pools, white cliffs and highly photographed white chalk stacks. Previous productions to have filmed at Botany Bay include Jhimma (2021), Sulphur and White (2020), and The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (2022).

Nell’s Café is a popular roadside café along the A2 in Gravesend. Situated on the southern bank of the River Thames, Gravesend boasts a cast iron pier, promenade and high street as well as international rail links at the nearby Ebbsfleet International station. Previous productions to have filmed at Nell’s Café include Series 1 of Killing Eve (2018-2022), Series 2 of Temple (2021) and Series 2 of In the Long Run (2019).

The Ramsgate Harbour Approach Tunnel is the approach road to Port of Ramsgate. The tunnel is over 800m long and about 9.5 metres wide. Because this is an alternative approach to the Harbour, this road and tunnel may be controlled during agreed periods. Previous productions to have made use of this include Hard Sun (2018) and The Tunnel: Sabotage (2016).

The Acacia Sports Hall in Dartford is a large sports hall and is part of a multi-use site that includes a manor and several outbuildings with ample parking. The Sports Hall is perfect for set building and storage with a ceiling height of over 20m. Recently opened as a build space for productions, The Baby is the first to make use of the facilities.

Situated between the River Medway and Pilgrims Way, St Andrews Lake in Halling is a unique 70-acre blue lake in a former chalk quarry with a total area of 122 acres of mixed woodland and a small lagoon area. From the Watersports Centre, you can hire a kayak, paddle board or a sailing boat.

The Quadrangle is a large Victorian farmstead built in 1870 in the Darent Valley, near Shoreham Village. The site features a grand lofty hay barn (15m x 8.5 m), converted Granary, stables, a holiday cottage, an orchard, and access to the River Darent for swimming and boating. Jamie and Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast (2016) used the location for filming a mini food festival.

The Baby was released on NowTV on Sunday 24th April 2022.

The Nevers (2021)

This 12-part, direct to TV series is an epic science fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies and a mission that might change the world.

The Nevers (2021) was co-written by Joss Whedon (Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Melissa Iqbal (Humans (2016), Origin), Kevin Lau (Lovecraft Country, Damnation), Madhuri Shekar (Sister Act 3, Evil Eye), and Buffy co-writer Jane Espenson (Once Upon a Time, Game of Thrones). The series was also directed by Joss Whedon. This is not the first time Whedon has filmed in Kent, as he filmed at Dover Castle for Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).

Laura Donnelly (Outlander, Britannia (2021)) leads the cast as Amalia True, the most reckless, hero of her time. Olivia Williams (Victoria and Abdul (2017), The Halcyon (2017)) plays the role of Lavinia Bidlow, wealthy spinster and champion of The Touched, who funds the orphanage where Amalia lives. Eleanor Tomlinson (The Outlaws, Poldark) plays Mary Brighton, a gentle but resilient woman who pursues her dream of singing on stage despite a disappointing career.

Ben Chaplin (The Thin Red Line, The Children Act) is the deeply moral Detective Frank Mundi, a man caught between the powerful and The Touched. Pip Torrens (The Crown Series 1 – 6 (2016-2023), Roadkill) is the unflappable Lord Massen, a former general determined to protect the established order from The Touched.  Nick Frost (The Boat that Rocked (2009), Shaun of the Dead) portrays Declan Orrun, aka the Beggar King, a low-level crime lord. Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story, Dallas Buyers Club) plays Dr. Edmund Hague, a gifted American surgeon who uses his skills in the most brutal way possible and James Norton (Grantchester (2014), Little Women) plays pansexual posh boy, Hugo Swann.

In 2019, production visited The Historic Dockyard Chatham, making use of multiple areas at the location as London doubles for Victorian streets including the Ropery exterior, Anchor Wharf, Stables and Officers’ Terrace. In Episode One a stunt scene filmed on Ropery Street appears with masked horsemen chasing the protagonists Amalia True, Penance Adair (Ann Skelly) and Myrtle Haplisch (Viola Prettejohn). The rear of the Ropery building also stands in as a theatre stage door entrance. The Stables houses stand in for Dr Horatio’s (Zackary Momoh) home and Officer’s Terrace stands in for the London street where Maladie (Amy Manson) is led away to an “asylum for the psychologically deranged”. The Historic Dockyard Chatham also provided a unit base for cast and crew during filming at Fort Amherst. Production also filmed at Fort Amherst to depict colonial scenes for the second part of the series, which unfortunately never aired.

Various locations in the Medway area provided unit base facilities to support The Nevers cast and crew during filming. The Dockside Retail Outlet Chatham and The Medway Campus of Greenwich University provided car parking and Gillingham Football Club provided a base for Supporting Artists. The Historic Dockyard Chatham provided unit base facilities in the exterior car parks and on Anchor Wharf, while the Fitted Rigging House was utilised for crowd holding between scenes.

Set on the River Medway, The Historic Dockyard Chatham was once an active Royal Navy shipyard and is one of the most popular Kent filming locations, particularly for period dramas looking for London street doubles. Recent period drama TV productions include Pennyworth Series 1 (2019), Belgravia (2020) and The Crown Series 1 – 6 (2016-2023).

The first half of The Nevers (2021) was made available to stream on NOWTV on Monday 17th May 2021. Unfortunately, the series was axed before the second half was released.

The Third Day (2020)

Jude Law (Captain Marvel, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) leads the cast in mysterious six-part limited series The Third Day (2020) due to air in the UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV. Blurring the lines between fantasy and reality, the adventure tale finds Law’s character Sam traveling to a strange island off the British coast where he encounters its inhabitants, eventually clashing with them as his sanity is threatened.

Produced by Plan B Entertainment for HBO, The Third Day also stars Naomie Harris (Skyfall, Spectre), Mark Lewis Jones (The Crown , Chernobyl), Amer Chadha-Patel (Beecham House , Year of the Rabbit ) and Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Alien: Covenant). Directed by Marc Munden (Utopia, National Treasure) and Philippa Lowthorpe (Three Girls, The Crown ) the show was written by Dennis Kelly (Utopia, Black Sea) with Kit de Waal and Dean O’Loughlin contributing two episodes.

Production visited many locations in Kent for filming, including Fog Signal Station at Dungeness, Allens Farm, St Clere Estate, Bedgebury National Pinetum Forest, Hever Castle, Quex Park, Grain, Chiddingstone and Shellness Beach.

Chiddingstone is one of the oldest and most picturesque villages in Kent. Within the Sevenoaks District, the village sits on the River Eden between Tonbridge and Edenbridge. Previous productions to film there include Terry and Mason’s Great Food Trip (2015) and Flog It! (2014).

Hever Castle is an outstanding 13th century Tudor castle and moat. The grounds include stunning Italianate gardens, a large lake, as well as a mock Tudor Village. It was the original home of the Boleyn family. Inkheart (2008) and The Other Boleyn Girl (2008) have previously filmed there.

Set in 2800 acres of the rolling Kent countryside, St Clere estate offers stunning views of the North Downs, formal gardens, paddocks, a meadow, ploughed fields, a kitchen garden, orangery, green houses, workshops and stunning features such as a hawthorn archway, lime avenue and a temple by the lake. Gangs of London (2020) and The Great (2020) have recently filmed here.

Shellness Beach has an area of mixed sand and shingle beach adjoining Shellness on the Isle of Sheppey. The beach is bordered by private chalets, some of which are available for filming. Both Dark Heart Series 1 (2018) and Kiss Me First (2018) have previously filmed here.

Situated in Dungeness on the Kent coast, The Fog Signal Station has been re-furbished to an incredible standard from old government buildings into contemporary dwellings. The interior leads outside via large glass doors on to decking and shingle. Vistas from the site include two light houses and a look-out tower. Una (2017) and All Or Nothing (2002) have previously filmed at Dungeness.

Allens Farm is a beautiful in the heart of the Sevenoaks district. Recent productions to have filmed in Sevenoaks include Gangs of London (2020) and The First Team (2020).

Bedgebury National Pinetum Forest in Tunbridge Wells has the world’s finest collection of Conifers. The site is a mixture of lakes, valleys, parkland and denser forest with a large variety of tree species. There are also adventure playgrounds, a Go Ape facility, restaurant, cafe and bike hire. Rupert, Rupert and Rupert (2019) and Queens of Mystery (2019) have previously filmed in Tunbridge Wells.

Quex Park is a regency-style country estate with a unique museum containing dioramas of African landscapes and gardens. The science fiction show Blakes 7 – Bounty (1978)  was filmed here.

Grain Coastal Park on the Isle of Grain gives visitors a chance to walk along two miles of shoreline and pass by ancient Forts. There are also leafy avenues with tunnels of trees that host a variety of wildflowers. Peterloo (2018) and London Spy (2015) have both previously made use of the various locations available on the Isle of Grain.

The Third Day will be available to stream on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV from Tuesday 15th September 2020.
