The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin (2024) is a six-part comedy series following lovable rogue Dick Turpin who unwillingly becomes head of a band of outlaws intent on outwitting the corrupt lawman Jonathan Wilde.

The series was created by Claire Downes, Ian Jarvis and Stuart Lane (The Job Lot, Carters Get Rich) and stars Noel Fielding (The Mighty Boosh, Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy) as Dick Turpin and Hugh Bonneville (The Gold (2023), Muppets Most Wanted (2014)) as Jonathan Wilde. Supporting cast includes Ellie White (Wonka, Ellie & Natasia), Tamsin Greig (The Amazing Mr Blunden (2021), Belgravia (2020)), Asim Chaudry (People Just Do Nothing, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch) and Joe Wilkinson (After Life, The Cockfields).

Production visited various locations in Kent to film for the medieval series, including the picturesque village of Chiddingstone, Bygone Farm, Fort Amherst, Penshurst village and High Rocks.

Built in medieval style, Bygone Farm is an extraordinary farm location and a perfect double for an ancient medieval farm of village. The farm features a courtyard, oak barn, traditional farmhouse, stables, and 50 acres of rolling parkland. There are also various vintage farm tools, machinery and farmyard props available including an old plough, oak barrels and a traditional horse cart.

Chiddingstone is one of the oldest and most picturesque villages in Kent. A beautiful example of a Tudor one-street village, over 70% of the buildings are more than 200 years old and many feature half-timbered sides, gables and stone-hung red-tiled roofs. Previous productions to have filmed in the village include, A Room With a View (1986) and The Larkins (2021-2022).

Built during Napoleonic times to defend Medway from a land-based attack, Fort Amherst consists of two run-down period outbuildings, cannons, defensive ditches, dressed period guard quarters, and atmospheric underground tunnels. Recent productions to have filmed there include The Witcher Series 3 (2023), The Nevers (2021) and Darkest Hour (2018).

Penshurst village is situated in the Tonbridge & Malling district. Tonbridge is a riverside town with picturesque castle, churches and historic buildings. Other productions to have filmed there include PRU (2022), Making Noise Quietly (2019) and Missing (2009-2010).

Once a Stone Age camp, the High Rocks are magnificent sandstone rocks interlinked with bridges in a tranquil woodland setting. Situated within the High Rocks complex there are four oak beam function rooms, each with its own bar and dance floor. Britannia Series 3 (2021) filmed at the High Rocks.

The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin (2024) will release on Apple TV+ on Friday 1st March 2024.

Inspired by true events, BBC’s new series The Gold (2023) tells the story behind the Brink’s-Mat robbery – a crime that was once considered to be the largest theft in world history.

The six-part series was written by Neil Forsyth (Guilt, Eric, Ernie and Me) and is directed by Academy-Award winning Aneil Karia (The Long Goodbye, Top Boy (2019-2022)) and Lawrence Gough (Gatecrash, Endeavour). Production filmed at a private house in West Kingsdown in Sevenoaks, which doubled as Kenneth Noye’s house.

West Kingsdown is a village in the Sevenoaks district, marked by its four churches, proximity to Brands Hatch racing circuit, and West Kingsdown Windmill – a Grade II listed smock mill built in the early 19th Century. Recent productions to have filmed in Sevenoaks include The Last Rite (2021), PRU (2022) and The Larkins (2021).

The Gold (2023) will begin airing on BBC One on Sunday 12th February 2023 and will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer afterwards.

Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted sees the whole Muppets gang on a grand world tour that takes an unexpected turn when they become involved with an international jewel thief who is a Kermit the Frog look-a-like.

Starring alongside the Muppets gang is Ricky Gervais (The Office, The Invention of Lying) Ty Burrell (The Incredible Hulk, Dawn of the Dead), Tina Fey (30 Rock, Mean Girls), and Hugh Bonneville (Notting Hill, The Monuments Men).

The Historic Dockyard in Chatham  doubled as Berlin where Kermit decides to go for a lonely walk after having an argument with Miss Piggy. Upon entering a square he is duped by the evil Kermit look-a-like, leading to Kermit’s arrest. 

The Historic Dockyard in Chatham is set over 80 acres and contains over 100 Georgian and Victorian buildings. It is a popular filming location and has been  used for productions such as Call the Midwife (2012-2014) Sherlock Holmes  (2009) and Sherlock Holmes – Game of Shadows (2011).

The Monuments Men is an action drama film based on the true story of one of the greatest treasure hunts in history, where an unlikely team are tasked to go to Germany during World War II and rescue art masterpieces from Nazi thieves and return them to their rightful owners.

With the German Army under instructions to destroy all of the artwork, the Monuments Men as they were known, consisting of museum directors, curators, and art historians are tasked to go behind enemy lines and retrieve the art and are willing to risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.

Directed, co-written and starring George Clooney (Up In The Air, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind) the film also stars a wealth of talent including Matt Damon (Bourne Trilogy, The Departed) , Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine, Lord of the Rings series), Bill Murray (Lost in Translation, Ghostbusters), John Goodman (The Big Lebowski, Argo), Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey, Burke and Hare), Jean Dujardin (The Wolf of Wall Street, The Artist) and Bob Balaban (Girls, Gosford Park).

In June 2013, the production visited a farm in High Halden, Ashford where they filmed establishing shots of the farmland. A number of the production team also chose to stay in Ashford whilst filming scenes in Camber Sands in neighbouring East Sussex.

Ashford is a lively town with tremendous rail links, both to Europe via the Eurostar and to the capital via the High Speed Javelin. The town boasts many shops, eateries, and a designer outlet shopping centre and only a short drive away is a glorious Kent countryside. This isn’t the first time that Ashford and surrounding areas has been used for filming with previous visiting productions including Emma (2009).

Downton Abbey (2010-2015) was an ITV period drama charting the lives of the Crawley family and their servants in early 20th Century Britain.

Created by Julian Fellowes (Belgravia (2020), Vanity Fair (2005)), the series hosts a star of acting talent including Maggie Smith (The Lady in the Van (2015), A Room With a View (1986)) as Violet Crawley, Hugh Bonneville (The Gold (2023), The Monuments Men (2014)) as Robert Crawley, Michelle Dockery (The Gentlemen, Good Behaviour) as Lady Mary Crawley, Brendan Coyle (Me Before You, Lark Rise to Candleford) as John Bates and Elizabeth McGovern (Ordinary People, Once Upon a Time in America) as Cora Crawley.

The opening shot of Series 1 Episode 1 is a steam train going through the countryside and was filmed at Kent & East Sussex Railway.

In February 2013, the Downton Abbey team visited The Historic Dockyard Chatham where they used the Tarred Yarn Store to double as the workhouse where Mr Grigg (Nicky Henson) works in Series 4 Episode 1. Later, in Episode 2, the Ropery streets were used for the scenes where Lady Rose MacClare (Lily James) is at the market with James Kent (Ed Speleers) watching her.

Kent & East Sussex Railway is a ten-and-a-half-mile rural light railway from Tenterden to East Sussex. Kent & East Sussex Railway has previously featured in film and TV productions including Richard E. Grant on Ealing Comedies (2016), Mapp and Lucia (2014) and Last Passenger (2013).

The Historic Dockyard Chatham is a popular film location due to its varied and interesting areas such as the cobbled streets, church and over 100 buildings dating from the Georgian and Victorian periods. Previous productions that have shot here include Les Misérables (2013), Call the Midwife (2012-2024), and The Golden Compass (2007).

Series 1 of Downton Abbey originally aired on ITV from Sunday 26th September.

Series 4 of Downton Abbey aired on ITV from Sunday 22nd September 2013 and is now available to stream on Amazon Prime.

The Gathering Storm is a BBC-HBO co-produced film for TV about Winston Churchill in the years leading up to World War II. It’s emphasis is on the relationship between Winston and his wife Clementine, their financial problems and his struggle as an isolated backbench MP when warning Parliament about the coming of a second major war.

Albert Finney (The Bourne Ultimatum, Erin Brockovich) plays Churchill and won a host of awards for his performance including a Golden Globe, Emmy and BAFTA.

Starring alongside Albert Finney are Vanessa Redgrave (Call the Midwife, Deep Impact), Jim Broadbent (Gangs of New York, Cloud Atlas), Ronnie Barker (Open All Hours, Porridge), Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey, The Monuments Men) and Tom Hiddleston (Thor, War Horse).

Chartwell was the real life Churchill family home from 1924 until Winston Churchill’s death in 1965 and was therefore chosen by the production to feature in The Gathering Storm as his house and grounds.

Chartwell is a National Trust property in Westerham set in delightful gardens. The rooms remain much as they were when Churchill lived there. Other National Trust locations in Kent which have been used for filming include Scotney Castle which was used for BBC drama Hunted (2012), Knole House featured in The Other Boleyn Girl (2008) and The White Cliffs of Dover appeared in On a Clear Day (2005).

Tipping the Velvet (2002)

Tipping the Velvet is a BBC television drama serial based on Sarah Waters best-selling  novel of the same name. Set in the 1890’s, the story focuses on  the lesbian love affair between male impersonator music hall star Kitty Butler (Keeley Hawes) and Nan Astley (Rachael Stirling).

The series stars many familiar faces including Rachael Stirling (Snow White and the Huntsman, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen), Keeley Hawes (Death at a Funeral, The Bank Job), Anna Chancellor (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Dreamers), Sally Hawkins (All or Nothing, Layer Cake), Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Star Trek Into Darkness) and Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey, Iris).

 The production team visited Whitstable which doubled as the coastal village where Nancy Astley (Rachael Stirling) lives with her family before she leaves for London and The Historic Dockyard Chatham which was used for the London street scenes.

Whitstable is a traditional seaside town renowned for its Oysters, which are integrated into its rich history and culture. Whitstable has been used previously for other TV and film projects such as Venus (2007).

The Historic Dockyard Chatham is a very popular filming location due to  its varied Victorian and Georgian period architecture a and has previously welcomed productions such as Mr Selfridge (2013-2014), Les Miserables (2012) and Sherlock Holmes – Game of Shadows (2011).
