Things You Should Have Done (2024-2025) follows Chi, a self-titled stay-at-home daughter, who finds her laidback lifestyle thrown into turmoil when both of her parents die and she discovers she will only inherit their house once she completes a list of things she should have done.
Written by and starring Margate-born Lucia Keskin (Big Boys, Sneakerhead), the series also features Daniel Fearn (Man vs. Bee, Peaky Blinders) as Dave, Jamie Bisping (Dreamland (2023)) as Lucas, Martha Cope (Alfie, Mile High) as Chi’s deceased Mum and Darren Strange (Ted Lasso, Parents) as Chi’s deceased Dad. In Series 1 Selin Hizli (Am I Being Unreasonable?, Grantchester (2014)) features as Aunt Karen, and for Series 2 Bridget Christie (The Change, Cardinal Burns) features as Chi’s therapist Ruth.
Both Series 1 and 2 were filmed entirely across Kent.
Ramsgate appears in both Series 1 and 2, with production filming in several private houses that double for Chi’s and Dave’s houses, Ramsgate Main Sands, as well as various roads. Geoff Oliver & Associates offices on Harbour Street appears in both Series 1 and 2 as Chi’s solicitor Adam’s (Sunil Patel) office. In Series 1, Newlands Primary School, and La Magnolia Italian Restaurant appear. New locations for Series 2 include the Wellington Crescent lift, a private residence on Wellington Crescent which doubles as the therapist office, Albion Place Gardens, Radford House, The Greek Arch Restaurant, and a private house on Paragon which doubles for Ruth’s house.
In Margate, filming for both series took place in the Costcutter on Canterbury Road. The Lido car park, Baxter’s Pharmacy, Bradgate Holiday Park, the Nayland Rock Hotel, Scavolini Kitchens and Bathrooms and Bugsy’s Ten Pin Bowling Centre feature in Series 1. Filming also took place at a privately-owned apartment on Northumberland Court, which doubles for Sarah Gilbeaux’s (Sarah Kendall) apartment in Series 2.
The Denture Clinic in Broadstairs also features in Series 1, doubling for a waiting room in a fertility clinic and a hospital waiting room. In Series 2, locations include a private house on York Street, which doubles for Lucas’ boyfriend Perry’s (Nathan Foad) house, York Street Methodist Church, a private house on The Drive, which doubles as solicitor Adam’s house, and Dane Court Grammar School, which features in Episodes 4 and 6, doubling for Ramsgate College and a hospital waiting room, respectively. Filming also took place at Westwood Cross shopping centre, including in the car park, the cinema, and at Frankie & Benny’s restaurant.
Production also visited Medway for Series 2, with filming taking place at the Buzz Bingo Hall in Rochester, privately-owned fields adjacent to Old Church Road in Rochester, as well as trick-or-treating and news interview scenes on Benenden Road.
And finally, for Series 2, filming also took place at Stourmouth House in Canterbury, which doubled for Claudia’s (Juliet Cowan) house.
Ramsgate is a thriving seaside town with beautiful Victorian and Regency terraces , a Marina, Port and promenade. Often doubling for period London, the town is a popular filming location, having recently featured in Liaison (2023), The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself (2022) and True Things (2022).
Margate is a seaside town complete with sandy beach, harbour, Dreamland retro amusement park, period housing and ultra-modern art gallery Turner Contemporary. Other productions that have filmed in Margate include Dreamland (2023), Empire of Light (2023) and Two Weeks to Live (2020).
Built in 1885, the Nayland Rock Hotel is situated on Margate beach, with stunning panoramic views of the English Channel and only a walking distance away from Margate’s top attractions. King of Thieves (2018), Whitstable Pearl (2021-2022) and Killing Eve (2018-2022) all feature the Hotel.
Located on the seafront between Margate and Cliftonville, Bugsy’s Ten Pin Bowling Centre offers 12-lanes as well as a diner, bar area and amusement arcade. It is also the only ten-pin bowling shop in Thanet.
Home to Charles Dickens’ Bleak House, Broadstairs is a seaside town with a sandy beach lined with beach huts, a band stand and large Victorian terraces. Eastenders (2007-2022), The Larkins (2021-2022) and Breeders Series 2 (2021) filmed in Broadstairs.
Westwood Cross is a shopping centre in Broadstairs with 53 stores and restaurants, a 10-screen cinema and free onsite parking. True Love (2012) also filmed at Westwood Cross, in the Carpetright store.
Rochester City lies at the river Medway and has the feel of a medieval market town, with a cathedral, castle ruin, and unspoilt high street with independent shops. Recent productions to feature Rochester include Whitstable Pearl (2021-2024), Series 6 of The Crown (2016-2023), and Big Boys Don’t Cry (2020).
Stourmouth House is a Grade II listed Queen Anne country house with all of its original features, including large Georgian fireplaces, flagstone and oak floors, oak panelled hall and bedrooms and an elaborate grand staircase. The house has 7 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and 3 large reception rooms and is filled with quirky furniture, artefacts and pictures.
