The Sandman (2022-2025) is a fantasy series based on the comic book of the same name. It follows Morpheus, the personification of dreams, after he escapes from decades of imprisonment and sets out to restore order to his realm.
Developed by Neil Gaiman (Good Omens, Stardust), David S Goyer (The Dark Knight, Batman Begins) and Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman (2017), Grey’s Anatomy), the series stars Tom Sturridge (The Boat that Rocked (2009), The Hollow Crown (2016)) as Morpheus, Boyd Holbrook (Logan, A Complete Unknown) as The Corinthian, Patton Oswalt (Ratatouille, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) as Matthew the Raven and Vivienne Acheampong (The Witches, The One) as Lucienne. Supporting cast includes Kyo Ra, David Thewlis (The Mercy (2018), Landscapers (2021)), Jenna Coleman (Klokkenluider (2023), Victoria), Sandra James-Young (Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Truelove), and Razane Jammal (A Walk Among the Tombstones, Djinn).
Production visited Kent to film at Scotney Castle in Lamberhurst, Tunbridge Wells for both Series 1 and 2. Filming also took place at Bayham Old Abbey for Series 2, doubling as Destiny’s Realm.
Scotney Castle is a Victorian country house set in one of England’s most romantic gardens surrounded by a beautiful wooded estate, including moated ruin and hop farm. It is managed by National Trust, and also featured in Hunted (2012).
Bayham Old Abbey is an English Heritage site which was built circa 1207. Built from local golden sandstone, Bayham functioned as an Abbey until its dissolution in the 16th Century. The ruins still include much of the 13th-15th Century church, the chapter house and a picturesque 14th Century gatehouse, situated in impressive grounds.
Series 2 of The Sandman (2022-2025) was released on Netflix in two parts; Part 1 dropped on Thursday 3rd July 2025 with Part 2 following on Thursday 24th July 2025.
