Klokkenluider (2023) is a thriller about Government whistle-blower Ewan (Tom Burke (True Things (2022), Strike – The Cuckoo’s Calling (2017)) and his forthright Flemish wife (Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who, Victoria), who are sent to hide in a remote country house in west Belgium by a British broadsheet newspaper.

The couple are joined by Chris and Glynn, two ex-army close protection security guards, contracted to protect the pair from dangerous forces determined to stop them from sharing their story. As they wait in the secluded house for the journalist coming to interview them, the unlikely foursome share personal histories and connect with each other in surprising ways.

Written and directed by Neil Maskell (Bull (2021), Level Up (2016)) in his directorial debut, Klokkenluider – which means ‘whistleblower’ in Dutch – is a blackly comic, character‑driven political thriller that will shock and entertain.

During filming, production visited Tunbridge Wells to film short scenes in Claremont Gardens and Town Hill Road. Production also filmed at Teise and Coffee café in Lamberhurst, which doubles for a patisserie in Belgium.

Set in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Tunbridge Wells is an historic spa town that offers a mix of independent shops and restaurants set alongside the colonnaded Pantiles and the picturesque High Street.  The area is renowned for its period houses and gardens and has been a place of interest for over 400 years. Recently Britannia Series 3 (2021) and This Way Up Season 2 (2021) TV series filmed here.

Klokkenluider (2023) will be releasing in select UK cinemas on Friday 1st September 2023.

’83 (2021)

Ranveer Singh, as legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev, stands in the centre of the frame holding a cricket bat. ’83 (2021) from Reliance Entertainment and Vibri Media recalls the events of one of India’s most defining sporting moments when in 1983, Kapil Dev, portrayed by Ranveer Singh (Kill Dil, Gully Boy) captains the Indian cricket team to their first ever World Cup victory.

Directed by Kabir Khan (Ek Tha Tiger, Kabul Express), ’83 also features Deepika Padukone (Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express) as Dev’s wife Romi, Jiiva (Kee, Mugamoodi) as Srikkanth and Saqib Saleem (Race 3, Dil Junglee) as Amarnath.

The summer of 2019 saw production visit The Historic Dockyard in Chatham and The Nevill Cricket Ground in Tunbridge Wells. A scene depicting an altercation between two rivalling groups of cricket fans was filmed on Ropery Street at The Historic Dockyard, but we believe this did not make the final cut. Other Bollywood productions to have filmed here include Rustom (2016) and Pagalpanti (2019).

The Nevill Cricket Ground was used as itself, re-creating Kapil Dev’s famous score of 126 runs in a match against Zimbabwe on June 18th, 1983. To commemorate the historic sporting event, a plaque at the pavilion was unveiled by Kapil Dev, the film’s director Kabir Khan and actor Ranveer Singh.

The plaque at Nevill Cricket Ground in Tunbridge Wells which commemorates cricketer Kapil Dev’s performance at the 1983 Cricket World Cup. The plaque reads: ‘Kapil Dev and Royal Tunbridge Wells. To commemorate the historic innings of 175 by India’s Kapil Dev at the Cricket World Cup, here at the Nevill Ground, home of Tunbridge Wells Cricket Club, on June 18th, 1983. India went on to win the Cup. And more than a quarter of a century later, in Cricket World Cup year, to mark the filming on the same ground in July 2019, of a re-enactment of the innings which made Kapil a legend, as part of the Indian Sports’ drama film entitled ’83’, directed by Kabir Khan with Ranveer Singh playing the part of Kapil Dev.’

Tunbridge Wells, situated in Western Kent, was a fashionable spa resort in the mid-1700s, maintaining much of the stylish Georgian architecture including an entire period shopping street called The Pantiles. Recent productions to film in the area include Queens of Mystery (2020-2021) and The Royals (2016-2018).

Set on the River Medway The Historic Dockyard Chatham was once an active Royal Navy shipyard and is one of the most popular Kent filming locations, recent productions to film at the Dockyard include The Nevers (2021), Bridgerton (2020) and The Crown Series 1 – 6 (2016-2023).

’83 was released in UK cinemas on Thursday 23rd December 2021.

Queens of Mystery (2020-2021)

Queens of Mystery (2020-2021) follows the adventures of detective Matilda Stone (Olivia Vinall – Series 1; Florence Hall – Series 2) and her three crime writing aunts Cat Stone (Julie Graham), Jane Stone (Siobhan Redmond), and Beth Stone (Sarah Woodward) as they attempt to solve crimes in the picturesque English village of Wildemarsh.

Created and written by Julian Unthank (Doc Martin, New Tricks), with Mathew Thomas (Marcella (2016), The Chameleon) writing four episodes, each series consists of three murder mysteries told in six episodes.

The principal cast includes Julie Graham (Survivors, Shetland), Siobhan Redmond (The Smoking Room, Captives) and Sarah Woodward (The Merry Wives of Windsor) with Florence Hall (The Princess Switch: Switched Again, The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star) joining in Series 2 to take over from Olivia Vinall (The Woman in White, Where Hands Touch). Other regulars include Martin Trenaman (The Inbetweeners Movie, PhoneShop), Andrew Leung (Cruella, Lilting), Michael Elcock (The Grey Tarmac Road) and Rebecca Grant (Holby City, Showtrial). Juliet Stevenson (Bend it Like Beckham, Truly Madly Deeply) was Emmy-nominated as a narrator in Series 1 and reprises the role for Series 2.

Queens of Mystery‘s impressive guest cast have included Josette Simon (Wonder Woman (2017), The Witches), Nancy Carroll (The Crown (2016-2023), Stephen), Mark Heap (Friday Night Dinner, Stardust), Danny Webb (Humans (2016), Liar (2017-2020)), Michelle Collins (EastEnders, Death in Paradise), Omid Djalili (His Dark Materials, Lucky Man), Emma McDonald, Charlie Maher (The Titans That Built America, Black Narcissus), Rufus Hound (Trollied, Zapped), Sarah Hadland (Miranda, Horrible Histories (2019-2023)), Sara Stewart (Batman Begins, Doctor Foster) and Colin McFarlane (Outlander, Little Princess).

Series 2 sees lead director Ian Emes return to direct two of the three murder mysteries, with Theresa Varga (Secret Life of Boys, Hetty Feather (2015-2020)) directing the middle block. Both series’ make use of multiple filming locations in Kent.

Production visited several locations in Farningham for the hero village of Wildemarsh. Beth’s cottage, which features throughout Series 1 and 2, was filmed on the Mill Estate. In Series 2, the exterior of the doctor’s surgery as well as of Victoria Durrell’s (Selina Griffiths) and Henry Wade’s (Aki Omoshaybi) houses and Rachel’s Papers shop were also filmed on the Mill Estate. Wadard Books on the High Street doubles as the Murder Ink bookshop and Jane’s house. Farningham Village Store also features as Wildemarsh Village store and the entrance to The Corn Exchange Theatre in Series 1. Farningham has previously been used as a filming location for Flesh and Blood (2020).

Production used Lympne Castle as Hiddledean Castle in the Series 1 episode entitled Murder in The Dark. Lympne Castle is an unspoiled 13th century Manor in the Folkestone & Hythe district of Kent that boasts stunning views of the Romney Marsh. It has previously been used as a filming location for The Honourable Woman (2014) and Great Expectations (2012).

In the Death By Vinyl episode in Series 1, Stoneydale craft shop in Cranbrook was converted into the The Sound and Fury record shop in Wildemarsh. Cranbrook also features as the High Street throughout both series. In the Series 2 episode Sparring with Death, Part 1, St Dunstan’s Church and graveyard in Cranbrook feature when Matilda and Beth visit the grave of Beth’s husband.

St Michael’s Churchyard in Smarden was used as the Wildemarsh churchyard, and a private residence in Water Lane featured as the village’s Embittered Hack Pub in Series 1. Productions that previously filmed in Smarden include The Mirror Crack’d (1980).

Woodchurch Windmill in Ashford features as the exterior of Wildemarsh Windmill throughout both series. The view from the mill to the village below also features throughout.

Series 2 of Queens of Mystery was released on AcornTV on Monday 29th November 2021.

Britannia Series 3 (2021)

Britannia (2021) is a historical fantasy TV drama set in 43 AD as the Roman Army returns to subjugate Britannia, which is populated by Celtic tribes that include warrior women and powerful druids. Series 3 sees a radical transformation in Cait’s (Eleanor Worthington-Cox) journey as the Chosen One with a decision that will tie her to the future of her war-torn people and their ravaged land.

The series was created by multi-award-winning writers Jez Butterworth (Spectre), his brother Tom Butterworth (Silent Witness) and James Richardson (Bulletproof). Epic, action packed, full of humour and terrifying in equal measure, Britannia is produced by Vertigo Films and Neal Street Productions in association with Sky Studios.

Britannia stars Gianni Calchetti (Cruella, The Third Day (2020)), Mackenzie Crook (Worzel Gummidge, The Office) and David Morrissey (The Walking Dead, The Missing) and, new to Series 3, Sophie Okonedo (The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses (2016)).

High Rocks in Tunbridge Wells features in Series 3 Episode 5 as the land of the Sunfolk, an all-female tribe of visually impaired warriors. High Rocks is a national monument and site of special scientific interest. It comprises acres of sandstone rocks linked by eleven bridges that provide a scenic walk through a tranquil woodland setting. The rocks were once a stone age camp and provided the perfect backdrop for this Celtic drama.

Tunbridge Wells is a popular filming location and previous drama productions to have visited the area are The Third Day (2020) and Queens of Mystery (2020-2021).

Britannia Series 3 was made available to stream on SKY Atlantic and NOW on Tuesday 24th August 2021.

This Way Up Series 2 (2021)

This Way Up (2021) is a TV comedy that follows Aine (Aisling Bea (Quiz, Living with Yourself)), as she recovers from a teeny little nervous breakdown. Sisters Aine and Shona (Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe, Women on the Verge)) share an unshakeable bond and Aisling Bea, who is the show’s creator, describes their relationship as “passionate, caring, often-angry, always-hilarious. In the darkest moments, when faced with overwhelming loneliness and sadness, the two sisters will always save each other and bring each other back into the light.” Series 2 follows Aine as she is starting to leave her time in rehab behind and live less cautiously, which may not be entirely wise.

Created by Aisling Bea, Series 2 was directed by Alex Winckler (My Mad Fat Diary, Traitors) and stars Aisling Bea as lead character Aine, with Sharon Horgan playing her older sister. Aine’s love interest, Richard, is played by Tobias Menzies (The Crown (2016-2023), The Terror).

During filming, production visited Tunbridge Wells where they filmed in a private house in Speldhurst for several days as the location of Shona’s house.

Tunbridge Wells is in West Kent and is officially known as Royal Tunbridge Wells due to King Edward VII commemorating the town owing to his mother Queen Victoria’s love for the area. It is home to a host of historic buildings, specialist shops and a busy town centre. Previous productions to have filmed there include Rupert, Rupert and Rupert (2019) and Catastrophe (2018).

Series 2 of This Way Up will air on Channel 4 from Wednesday 14th July 2021.

Rupert, Rupert and Rupert (2019)

This comedy follows the life of Rupert (Sandy Batchelor), a struggling actor with multiple personality disorder and his three identities that compete for control after he earns the lead role in a West End play and meets Stevie (Daisy Keeping), the production’s makeup artist, who shows a romantic interest in him.

Rupert, Rupert and Rupert was written by Mick Sands (Nazi Vengeance, The Holly Cane Experiment) and directed by Tom Sands (The Holly Cane Experiment, False Witness) and stars Sandy Batchelor (The Fall of the Krays, False Witness), Daisy Keeping (Neverlake, Humans (2016)), Adam Astill (All The Money in the World, World’s End) and Ben Porter (School for Seduction, Somers Town).

Areas in Royal Tunbridge Wells were used for filming, including Brook Road, where Stevie lives and holds a garden party. The exterior of Gusta Café is shown when Rupert’s agent walks out with a coffee. The alleyway between Prospect Road and London Road in Southborough, Tunbridge Wells was also used for filming.

A historic town with a lot of character, Royal Tunbridge Wells has also been used for filming for the musical Half a Sixpence (1967), specifically The Pantiles, a parade of shops with old-style Georgian architecture. Gusta is a popular Italian café and restaurant in the busy town centre.

Rupert, Rupert and Rupert was released on Friday 26th April 2019 and can be streamed on Amazon Prime.

Catastrophe Series 4 (2019)

Catastrophe (2015-2019), Channel 4’s popular comedy series,  follows the lives of American Rob (Rob Delaney) and Sharon (Sharon Horgan) his Irish wife from Ireland who first met on a business trip to London. The latest series catches up with them four years after they first met as Rob tackles his alcoholism and we see its impact on their relationship. It also includes the fictional funeral of Mia (Carrie Fisher), Rob’s mother as actress Carrie Fisher who sadly passed away after the filming of Series 3.

Starring Sharon Horgan (Game Night, Moone Boy) as Sharon Morris, Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2, Action Team) as Rob Norris, Mark Bonnar (Shetland, Take Down) as Chris, and guest starring Julie Hesmondhalgh (Coronation Street, Broadchurch) and Chris Noth (Sex and the City, Tyrant).

Filming for Mia’s funeral took place at Beacon House in the seaside town of Whitstable, which doubled as a house in Boston. The house is situated above a natural promontory, called The Street, which stretches out to sea for about half a mile. Another location used in Whitstable was The Lobster Shack, which is located at the edge of the harbour with stunning sea views.  Whitstable is a popular filming location and previous productions include Wayfaring Stranger (2008), The Things I Haven’t Told You (2008), and Mr Turner (2014).

The Pantiles in Royal Tunbridge Wells also featured in the new series and doubled as Boston. This area with shops, bars and live music offers a great shopping experience. The buildings, some of which are over 400 years old, still have some original features, though the overall impression is of a Georgian terrace that plays host to events from farmers markets to live Jazz and Christmas fairs. Royal Tunbridge Wells is credited in films and TV series such as The Royals Season 4 (2018).

Catastrophe began airing on Channel 4 on Monday 7th January 2019 .

The Royals (2016 – 2018)

Set in modern-day London, The Royals (2015-2018) follows the lives and scandals of a fictional British Royal family.

The show was created by Mark Schwahn (Coach Carter, One Tree Hill) and the ensemble cast includes Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Bedazzled) as Queen Elena, William Mosely (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Carrie Pilby) as Prince Liam, Alexandra Park (Ben is Back, Home and Away) as Princess Eleanor, Jake Maskall (Eastenders, Centurion) as Cyrus and Tom Austen (Grantchester, Helstrom) as Jasper.

For Series 2, the production made use of two locations in Kent: Boughton Monchelsea Place and Allington Castle. Boughton Monchelsea Place can be seen in Episode 3 as the manor house that Princess Eleanor and Jasper visit. Allington Castle features in Episode 7, as the Henstridge residence that Princess Eleanor and Queen Helena visit.

The Historic Dockyard Chatham features in various episodes of Series 4. The Tarred Yarn Store was used to represent the interior of a house in India which Princess Eleanor and Sebastian (Toby Sandeman) are restoring. King Robert (Max Brown) leaves on HMS Cavalier. The gardens of the Commissioner’s House feature as the meeting place for Prince Liam and his ex Kathryn (Christina Wolfe). External street scenes, including a protest, were filmed around the Ropery.

Filming for Series 4 also took place in Tunbridge Wells, on Chapel Place, as part of a Royal Wedding. Unfortunately, this scene did not appear to make the final cut.

Boughton Monchelsea Place is a 16th Century manor house set within 15 miles of countryside to the south of Maidstone and has been featured in The Carer (2016) and Half Broken Things (2007).

Allington Castle is privately owned and situated on the banks of the River Medway and was previously on screen in Covington Cross (1992) and The Zany Adventures of Robin Hood (1984).

A historic 17th-Century dockyard spanning over 80 acres, Chatham Dockyard contains over 100 buildings dating from the Georgian and Victorian Periods. It is the most popular filming location in Kent, having played host to many high-profile films and TV shows, including The Crown (2016-2022), Victoria & Abdul (2017) and Holmes & Watson (2018).

Hunted Series 2 (2016)

Channel 4’s Hunted returns for a second series where 10 ordinary people take the challenge to remain hidden for 28 days with the chance of winning a share of £100,000. With a team of professional hunters trying to trace their every move and members of the public looking to trade information for cash, will they be able to stay hidden?

The final episode was partly filmed in Kent where the remaining two fugitives hid out in Tunbridge Wells and Isle of Sheppey the night before the final day. The fugitives must race to the finish line which is a boat moored on the Isle of Sheppey – will they make it in time or will the Hunters catch them?

Tunbridge Wells is an historic spa town with a picturesque High Street that has many independent shops and restaurants. Projects which have previously filmed in the area include Terry and Mason’s Great Food Trip (2015).

Sittingbourne and the Isle of Sheppey is in the Swale district of Kent and offers town areas, flat open landscapes and beautiful beach areas. Southcliffe (2103), Great Expectations (2012) and The Sweeney (2012) have previously been filmed in Swale.

Sam Hunter is a spy who works for an elite private intelligence firm and during her latest mission escapes an attempted assassination. Realising someone has set her up and not knowing who to trust, Sam tries to find out who wants her dead.

This original, eight-part BBC spy drama is from the makers of Spooks and features Melissa George (Grey’s Anatomy) as Sam Hunter. She is supported by a cast of familiar faces including Adam Raynor (Mistresses) who plays Sam’s colleague and romantic interest, Stephen Dillane (Game Of Thrones), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost), Lex Shrapnel (Captain America: The First Avenger), and Morven Christie (Twenty Twelve).

In March this year, the Hunted crew came to Scotney Castle film various stunt and fight scenes in both the country house and oasts. Scotney Castle is a National Trust property which boasts a spectacular Victorian country mansion surrounded by beautiful gardens and woodland, as well as a fairytale inspired castle ruin complete with a moat set in the beautiful Tunbridge Wells countryside.

Many other well-known productions have also chosen Tunbridge Wells to serve as a backdrop including Queens of Mystery (2019).
