Mary Berry hits the road and revisits her favourite places in the UK, using them as inspiration for her food. As part of a six part series, the first episode will feature Kent.

Using simple and easy to follow recipes, Mary Berry’s dishes are extremely user friendly. The series shows Mary Berry travelling from the seaside to the countryside, to farmers’ markets and allotments; all the while suggesting that not a lot of money is needed to make a wholesome meal for the family.

Growing up in WWII Britain, Mary Berry explains that her mother made all their family meals from scratch. Mary demonstrates her joy of getting stuck in as she forages for wild mushrooms and learns to fly fish.

The first episode shows Mary Berry exploring the Kent Coast for seafood inspired meals and desserts. In the episode, Mary even visits Morellis Gelato in Broadstairs, which she admits has hardly changed at all since she first visited.

Broadstairs provides sandy beaches and relaxing cliff tops walks and has been a setting for many films, such as Edge of Heaven (2014 – some parts of Broadstairs were used to double as places in Margate), Only Fools and Horses: The Jolly Boys’ Outing (1989 – Broadstairs Police Station, which is now a pub on Gladstone Road) and many more.

Viewers can also see Broadstairs in last year’s The Great British Bake Off, as the team visited Viking Bay beach.

Secrets of Great British Castles (2015)

A new Channel 5 series, Secrets of Great British Castles, sees historian Dan Jones explore the history and legends of the UK’s great fortresses.

As Dan gets glimpses behind the walls of these British strongholds, he discovers the stories of drama, romance, rebellion, royalty and murder which have come to define the last 1000 years of British history.

The first episode in the series features  Dover Castle and takes Dan behind the battlements. He descends down into the underground and discovers the vast network of tunnels which were used to defend both the castle and the country for centuries.

Dover Castle is a medieval castle situated on the top of the White Cliffs of Dover. It was founded in the 12th century and has been described as ‘The Key to England’ due to its defensive significance throughout history. It is the largest castle in England and boasts and extensive network of underground tunnels.

The castle is now open to visitors throughout the year and is managed by English Heritage.

Whilst filming at Dover Castle, the production also visiting The Grand Shaft, a unique 1800s triple spiral staircase used as a defence system for the rapid movement of troops from the cliff top to the beach in Dover.

Dover Castle has previously welcomed productions such as Into The Woods (2015), BBC One’s drama Wolf Hall (2015), and The Other Boleyn Girl (2008).

The stars of Channel 4 series Googlebox, Steph and Dom Parker, welcome their local MP candidate, UKIP leader Nigel Farage, into their luxury B&B for an entirely different kind of interview.

The one off special is a spin off from Gogglebox, the popular show where different groups including families and friends watch and comment on some of the most popular, and peculiar TV from the past week. Steph and Dom have featured in the series since its launch in 2013 and are known as the “posh couple”, renowned for enjoying a tipple.

The Salutation is a grade I listed mansion in Sandwich and is set in 3.5 acres of beautiful Lutyens & Jekyll gardens. The property boasts 17 magnificent bedrooms as well as self-contained properties.

The medieval town of Sandwich is situated on the River Stour and boasts some of the best-preserved half-timbered houses in the country. The area is also home to several golf clubs, eateries and B&B’s as well a museum, windmill and Roman Fort. Nearby Discovery Park was used for The Tunnel (2013) and World War Z (2013).

Steph and Dom meet Nigel Farage will be aired on Channel 4 on Monday 15th December 2014 at 22:00.

Flog It! (2014)

Flog It! is a BBC One programme where members of the public bring their antiques to be examined and valued by a team of experts, with an option to sell at auction.

The popular show is now in its thirteenth series and in July 2014, presenter and antiques dealer Paul Martin and the Flog It! team visited Kent’s Chiddingstone Castle where experts Thomas Plant and Adam Partridge find some fascinating antiques and collectables for members of the public to take to auction. Paul also pays a visit to Chartwell, the former home of Sir Winston Churchill.

Chiddingstone Castle is a delightful historic house near Edenbridge, set in 30 acres of parkland and boasting breath-taking views of the North Downs, a rose garden, woodland and a beautiful fishing lake. Chiddingstone Castle has previously featured in Bargain Hunt (2012) and nearby one-street Tudor village Chiddingstone has been used as a film location by productions such as  A Room With A View (1986) and Elizabeth R (1971).

Chartwell is a National Trust property set in delightful gardens and was the home to Winston Churchill from 1924 until his death in 1965. The location has previously been used by feature film The Gathering Storm (2002).

The Great Interior Design Challenge is a BBC Two show which searches for the countries best amateur interior designers as contestants battle it out in a variety of challenges to try and impress both the judges and homeowners.

Episode 10 of series 2 sees mum-of-three, Kelly, teashop owner Kate and fashion graduate Alex compete to gain a place in the quarter-finals as they take on awkward dimensions in three bedrooms of converted oast houses in Kent. With just three days and a budget of £1,000, who will be able to demonstrate their skills and inventiveness and the two places?

The production visited Marden in the Maidstone area where they filmed at a couple of the converted oasts.

Marden is a rural village in the Maidstone district of Kent and boasts a church, library and local amenities. Maidstone has welcomed filming from productions such as Couples Come Dine With Me (2014) and Missing (2009).

The Kent episode of The Great Interior Design Challenge will be shown on Tuesday 18th November 2014 at 19:00 on BBC Two.

Homes By The Sea (2014)

More 4 series, Homes By The Sea, follows architect and designer Charlie Luxton as he seeks out the finest, quirkiest, most spectacular and unusual homes that can be found on Britain’s beautiful coastline.

In episode 4, the Homes By The Sea team visits a home made from a railway carriage in Dungeness and a converted Martello Tower in Dymchurch.

Dymchurch is a village on the east Kent coast and boasts a sandy beach and sea wall, amusements, cafes and ice cream parlours.

Just along the coast is Dungeness which is a vast and unique nature reserve, featuring a shingle beach, two lighthouses and power station. The area has featured in a variety of productions such as The Honourable Woman (2014), The Poison Tree (2012) and Dr Syn: The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh (1964).

The Kent episode of Homes By The Sea will be shown on More 4 on Thursday 13th November 2014 at 21:00.

Who Do You Think You Are? is the hit BBC series where celebrities trace their ancestry and discover secrets and surprises from their past.

The eleventh series has featured actresses Julie Walters and Sheridan Smith, comedian Billy Connolly and Bake Off star Mary Berry, with the final episode of the series focusing on model and actress, Twiggy.

Twiggy, whose real name is Lesley Lawson, takes a journey into discovering her family’s descent and visits Farningham and Darenth in Kent along the way.

Farningham is a quaint village located on the River Darent in the Sevenoaks district of Kent. The village is said to have been visited by Charles Dickens where he fished trout.

In neighbouring Dartford is Darenth which has a church, public halls as well as acres of woodland such as Darenth Woods and Darenth Country Park.

The Sevenoaks area has welcomed filming from productions such as Rush (2013) and Strawberry Fields (2012).

Dartford has hosted Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (2010).

Free Speech is the BBC Three debate and discussion show where viewers get the chance to speak up about the biggest issues the country faces.

The next episode is an immigration special coming live from Margate Winter Gardens and is presented by Rick Edwards with Interactive Presenter Tina Daheley adding to the debate with the live social media feed.

Panellists including Suzanne Evans, deputy chairman of the UK Independence Party, journalist and author of The Establishment, Owen Jones and Lord Bilimoria, the founder of Cobra beer, will debate and answer audience questions around the pros and cons of immigration.

Now in its third series, the show has previously explored tough subjects such as addiction, young parenting, and unemployment.

Margate Winter Gardens is an event and theatre venue in the seaside town of Margate. The town itself boasts gallery the Turner Contemporary which is set on the sandy beach as well as a harbour, arcades, quirky shops and trendy cafes. Margate has previously been seen on screen in BBC’s Coast (2014), ITV comedy Edge of Heaven (2014) and BBC One’s drama True Love (2012).

A Taste of Britain (2014)

A Taste of Britain is a new BBC series presented by Janet Street-Porter and Brian Turner who visit different areas around the country to see the sights and try local delicacies and food specialities.

An upcoming episode takes the duo to one of Janet Street-Porter’s favourite places – Kent. They explore Oare Marshes and historic Faversham before visiting one of the UK’s only snail farms near Canterbury which inspires Brian to make a snail frittata.

The Goods Shed in Canterbury is the next stop for Janet and Brian, where chef Rafael Lopez creates a delicious lunch of lamb cutlets with vegetables using local ingredients.

The pair also visits Brogdale near Faversham which is in the throes of peak cherry season and spurs Brian on to bake a stunning cherry pastry cake.

The Oare Marshes Nature Reserve is located in the South Swale, in Harty Ferry, and has freshwater dykes, open water scrapes, reedbed, saltmarsh and a seawall which is favoured nesting place for many species of migrating birds. Previous productions which have filmed at Oare Marshes include Channel 4 drama Southcliffe (2013) and feature film Great Expectations (2012).

The historic market town of Faversham  has nearly 500 listed buildings and is home to Britain’s oldest brewery, Shepherd Neame. The area has many restaurants, shops and beautiful landscapes such as the picturesque Faversham Creek. Faversham has been previously seen on screen for productions such as Great British Railway Journeys (2014).

The Goods Shed in Canterbury is a popular Famer’s Market, restaurant, and food hall. Canterbury is a vibrant City which boasts the historic Cathedral, shopping areas, parks and open spaces as well as neighbouring quaint, traditional towns. Previous productions that have shot in Canterbury include Last Orders (2008).

The Kent episode of A Taste of Britain will be shown on BBC One on Monday 22nd September 2014 at 15:45.

British Art at War: Paul Nash – The Ghosts of War (2014)

This new BBC Four series with art historian and broadcaster Andrew Graham-Dixon explores how three British artists responded to the cataclysm of World War One.

The show focuses on the works David Bomberg, Walter Sickert and Paul Nash. The first episode explores the life and art created by Paul Nash – one of Britain’s great landscape artists, whose work was influenced by his time serving in both World Wars.

Paul Nash and his wife lived in Dymchurch from 1921 -1925 and produced a series of paintings of the seawall and surrounding landscape of Romney Marsh therefore the production visited the area to discover the landscapes which inspired him.

Dymchurch is a village on the south east Kent coast and is a popular summer beach resort due to its delightful sandy beach, sea wall and amusements as well as many cafes and ice cream parlours. The area has been featured on screen before in productions such as The Honourable Woman (2014), Parade’s End (2012) and Dr Syn: The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh (1964).

British Art at War starts on Sunday 14th September 2014 at 21:00 on BBC Four.
