Joanne Froggatt and Ioan Gruffudd reprise their roles in the return of this ITV psychological thriller, which will focus on the big question: who killed Andrew Earlham?

The series’ main character, Laura Nielson, is played by Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey (2010–2015), Dark Angel (2016)) with Andrew Earlham, her antagonist, played by Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic 4 (2005) Titanic (1997)), meanwhile Zoe Tapper (Mr Selfridge (2013), Grantchester (2020) plays Laura’s sister.

Liar Series 2 is directed by Chris Sweeney and welcomes back creators Harry Williams and Jack Williams. As well as penning Liar, the Williams brothers are also known for writing BBC1’s The Missing and Rellik. Their next creation is Kate Beckinsale drama The Widow.

Series Two picks up three weeks after an arrest warrant was issued for Andrew Earlham for the sexual assault of 19 women. When Andrew’s body is found in the Kent marshes, Detective Inspector Renton, played by Katherine Kelly (Mr Selfridge (2013)) is tasked with uncovering clues about Andrew’s past and unpacking the events of the three crucial weeks leading up to his murder. New cast members also include Howard Charles (The Widow (2019), The Musketeers (2014-2016)) as Carl Peterson, and Amy Nuttall (Downton Abbey (2010–2015), New Tricks (2014-16)) as Winnie Peterson.

During the filming of Series Two production filmed in Deal as Laura’s Home town. Filming took place in and around Deal Pier, The Marina, Dunkerley’s Restaurant and Hotel, the Black Douglas Coffee House and Deal Beach Parlour. Additional filming took place at Kingsdown Beach  and The Zetland Arms Pub.  Tom Farm in Tonbridge & Malling was also filmed as a rural location.

The coastal town of Deal has a long naval history and is one of the major cinque ports along the south coast. Deal is a winner of the Daily Telegraph’s High Street of the Year 2013 award. The Pier is a significant local landmark and public amenity offering excellent views of the town. It is internationally recognised as an angling venue and features a glass-walled café-bar on the pier-head.

Kingsdown Beach, located just up the coast from the White Cliffs of Dover, has a secluded shingle beach, with plenty of benches suitable for picnics.

East Kent is home to spectacular coastal landscapes and historic towns and boasts excellent transport links to London and western Europe. East Kent has been used for filming several recent hit TV productions such as Baptiste (2019), Next of Kin (2018) and The Tunnel: Vengeance (2017).

Tom Farm, situated in the district of Tonbridge & Malling, is a large working farm offering a huge array of shoot location opportunities. Home to a wide mix of farm animals, including sheep, cattle, pigs and horses, Tom Farm offers 1,000 acres of arable land, a butchers shop, country store and a breakers yard within its ownership. Recent productions to film in the district include feature film Making Noise Quietly (2019) and TV documentaries Horizon: My Amazing Brain – Richard’s War (2018) and Harry Potter: A History of Magic (2017).

Liar Series 2 is due to air on ITV on Monday 2nd March 2020 at 9pm.

ITV’s new six part thriller, Liar, follows the relationship between teacher Laura Newell (Joanne Froggatt) and the father of one of her pupils, Andrew Ellis (loan Gruffudd). Their simple attraction leads to deceit and betrayal which has wide reaching consequences for both families.

The series was written by Harry and Jack Williams (BBC: One of us) and directed by James Strong (BBC: Doctor Who 2006-2009) and Samuel Donovan (CH4 Humans, Jamestown – Sky One). The cast is lead by Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey, A street Cat named Bob) and Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic 4, Titanic).
They are supported by
Zoe Tapper (Mr Selfridge, Reunited) and Warren Brown (Luther, By Any Means).

The series is set in the seaside town of Deal where the crew visited last winter to film in various locations including Walpole Bay, giving the show an eerie and intense visual feel.

Deal is a town on the south coast of Kent with a long naval history as one of the major Cinque Ports. Previous projects to have filmed in the area include The Tunnel: Sabotage (2016) and Legacy (2013).

Walpole Bay is located in the popular seaside town in Margate and offers a long sandy beach, promenade and tidal swimming pool.

Liar starts on Monday 11th September at 9pm on ITV.

True Love has many familiar faces including David Tenant (Doctor Who) Billie Piper (Secret Diary of a Call Girl), Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous), Vicky McClure (This is England), Lacey Turner (Eastenders), Ashley Walters (Inside Men), Jamie Winstone (Kidulthood), and David Morrissey (The Other Boleyn Girl).

The series explores love in the modern day and the many different dilemmas and situations along the way. Each story has links with the previous, either through connecting story lines or character connections and all have plenty of drama, heartbreak passion and some surprising outcomes.

The five stories that take place during the week-long serial include a married man whose life is turned upside down due to the reappearance of his first love, a school teacher who is drawn to a female pupil, a married woman who takes revenge on her cheating husband by starting an affair, a father unable to connect with his baby and a divorcee on a desperate search for new love.

In 2011, Kent welcomed the crew and stars of True Love. The production based it self in Margate, the director Savage’s home town, and used many Thanet locations including Margate Beach and promenade, Margate High Street, train station, various hotels and bars and even Thanet District Council Offices.  They also used the Turner Contemporary, as well as nearby Westgate-On-Sea, Cliftonville, Pegwell Bay, Botany Bay and Broadstairs.

Thanet has an astonishing 9 Blue Flag beaches and is a very popular filming location, due to its beautiful bustling seaside towns. It previously welcomed many TV and film productions, including Hancock and Joan (2008), Last Orders (2002) and a McDonald’s Happy Meal Commercial.

It is also home to the Turner Contemporary art gallery, adjacent to Margate harbour, which was built to contribute to the regeneration of the town and is fast becoming a highlight of the British visual arts scene. It also hosted the first public screening of the opening episode of True Love on 29th March 2012.

True Love will air every night on BBC One at 22.25pm from Sunday 17th – Thursday 21st June 2012.
