Black Mirror (2011-2023) is a Netflix anthology series set in a dystopian future, with each episode focusing on unique individuals grappling with the effects of technology.

Created by Charlie Brooker (Dead Set, Death to 2020), the series originally aired on Channel 4 before moving over to Netflix for the third season. Episode 3 of the new series, titled Beyond the Sea, stars Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad, Need for Speed) as Cliff Stanfield, Josh Hartnett (Lucky Number Slevin, The Faculty) as David Ross and Kate Mara (Fantastic Four, The Martian) as Lana Stanfield.

Set in an alternative 1969, Beyond the Sea follows two astronauts, Cliff and David, who are deep in outer space on a six year-long mission. Thanks to technology, the two can transfer their consciousness into highly realistic replicas of themselves back on Earth. When a tragedy occurs, their lives onboard and off the ship are thrown into turmoil.

Various locations in Kent feature throughout the episode. Cliff’s family home was shot at Home Farm in Swale, the river where Cliff and his son Henry (Daniel Bell) go fishing was filmed at Chilham Mill Estate, and the woodland where Lana takes David was Perry Wood in Selling. Dungeness also features as the road which Lana travels along to get into town, and where she later sits in her car waiting for Cliff to return from the ship.

Situated in Swale, Home Farm is a colonial style weatherboarded villa, with veranda’s overlooking the countryside. Inside, rooms are decorated in a vintage chic style with reclaimed wood floors and chateau doors. The property is particularly popular for photoshoots but has also featured in The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2017), Juliet, Naked (2018) and The Current War (2019).

Perry Wood is an ancient woodland lying between Selling and Chilham parishes. It is designated as a Local Wildlife Site and offers stunning panoramic views of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Chilham Mill Estate is located in the idyllic village of Chilham, which offers a multitude of features including a stunning private castle, two pubs, a traditional beamed village hall and a Norman built church which is believed to be the final resting place of Thomas Becket. The village has previously been featured in Emma (2009), Chickens (2011), and A Canterbury Tale (1944).

A unique expanse of SSSI shingle beach, the Dungeness Estate also features ramshackle huts, old and ultra-modern residences, two lighthouses, boat moorings, two pubs and artist galleries. It’s one of Kent’s most popular filming locations, having recently featured in Back to Life (2019-2021), Brave New World (2020) and Una (2017).

Season 6 of Black Mirror will be released on Netflix on Thursday 15th June 2023.

Love Again (2023)

Love Again (2023) is a remake of the successful 2016 German-language rom-com SMS Fuer Dich, based on the book written by Sofie Cramer. It tells the story of a young woman who is heartbroken by the death of her fiancé and sends text messages to his old number which, unbeknownst to her, has been reassigned. The messages are received by a single guy across town, and he is so moved by her messages that the two form a connection.

The film is directed by Jim Strouse (People Places Things, The Incredible Jessica James) and stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas (The Matrix  Resurrections, The White Tiger) as Mira, Sam Heughan (Outlander, The Spy Who Dumped Me) as Rob, Russell Tovey (Flesh and Blood (2020), The Good Liar) as Billy Brooks, and singer Céline Dion, who also composed new music for the film.

Production visited Kent to film at Home Farm in Swale, which doubles for Mira’s parent’s home, where she stays after the unexpected death of her fiancé.

Home Farm is a colonial style American homestead, with veranda’s overlooking the countryside bordered by woods. It is particularly popular for photoshoots, but has also been featured in The Current War (2019), Juliet, Naked (2018) and The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2017).

Love Again (2023) was released in UK Cinemas on Friday 12th May 2023 and is available to stream on Amazon.

Juliet, Naked (2018)

Juliet, Naked (2018), starring Ethan Hawke, Rose Byrne and Chris O’Dowd, is a warm, smart and funny adaptation of the Nick Hornby novel of the same name and features an obsessive rock fan, his long-standing girlfriend and the mysterious rocker he idolises.

Starring Rose Byrne (Bad Neighbours 1 & 2, Peter Rabbit) as Annie, Ethan Hawke (Training Day, Before Sunrise) as rock star Tucker Crowe and Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, Moone Boy) as Duncan.

Home Farm in Swale was previously used in André Øvredals The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2017). Filming for Juliet, Naked at the American-style Home Farm took place in 2015 where the house and grounds were used.

Filming also took place in Ramsgate, which is a popular filming area and has been used in several films and TV series such as Hard Sun (2018) and The Tunnel: Sabotage (2016). Further scenes were also filmed on Viking Bay beach in Broadstairs, which recently featured in feature films Hurricane (2018) and The Lady in The Van (2015).

Juliet, Naked is due to be released in the UK in cinemas on 2nd November 2018.

Slumber is a supernatural horror film that follows the story of Alice (Maggie Q), a sleep doctor who is forced to think outside the box when she meets a family who claim that a demon paralyses and terrorises them while they sleep.

Written by Richard Hobley (The Vessel, Japantown) and Jonathan Hopkins (Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Extraordinary Rendition), who also directed the film, Slumber’s cast is led by Maggie Q (Divergent , Die Hard 4.0) and features Kristen Bush (Paterno, Liberal Arts), Sam Troughton (Chernobyl, The Ritual), Lucas Bond (Summerland, Susu) and Honour Kneafsey (Miss You Already, A Christmas Prince).

Filming took place at Home Farm near Faversham which represented the Morgan’s family home.

Home Farm is a colonial-style villa surrounded by countryside views, with a vintage décor inside. Previous productions who used the location are The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2017) and Historical feature film The Current War (2019).

Slumber was released on the 5th January 2018.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe is a new take on the horror feature genre and stars father and son coroners, Tommy (Brian Cox) and Austin (Emile Hirsch) Tilden who receive a mysterious homicide victim with no apparent cause of death. Whilst carrying out their examination, they become aware that they are not alone in the morgue basement and start to suspect that something supernatural may have been involved with Jane Doe’s death.

The film is directed by André Øvredal (Trollhunter, The Tunnel) and written by Ian B. Goldberg (What Goes On, Once Upon a Time), Richard Naing (Behind the Mask, Dead of Summer).

Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild, Savages) and Brian Cox (Zodiac, X-Men: Days of Future Past) take the leading roles alongside Ophelia Lovibond (Thor: The Dark World, Guardians of the Galaxy) Michael McElhatton (The Hallow, Mammal), Olwen Katherine Kelly (Darkness on the Edge of Town, Why Life Sucks When You’re in Your 20s), Parker Sawyers (Southside With You) and Jane Perry (World War Z, A Hologram for the King).

The Autopsy of Jane Doe production team filmed at Home Farm in April 2015 which doubled as an American house.

Home Farm is a colonial style weather boarded villa set in 5 acres in the Swale district of Kent. The property boasts a white picket fence and veranda’s bordered by woods, faded grandeur interiors with reclaimed wood floors and a derelict Victorian greenhouse. Home Farm has been used for a variety of photoshoots including HSBC.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe is released in cinemas on Friday 31st March 2017
