Teen Mom UK (2016-) is back for its sixth series. The UK’s spin off from the hit American TV show Teen Mom, is a reality show which focuses on young mothers and how they deal with pregnancy, children, family and their day to day lives. The new series continues to be full of drama as it follows Amber Butler and Steven Rankine as they take the next steps in their relationship, as well as Shannon Wise’s exciting gender reveal party.

Filming for one of the upcoming episodes took place in Margate, where one of the teen moms takes a trip to the beach with her partner before the birth of her second child. The show journals their holiday in Margate.

Margate is a seaside town located in the district of Thanet. It has a sandy beach, harbour, amusement park, vintage shops and the modern art gallery the Turner Contemporary. Previous filming here includes Long Lost Family: What Happened Next (2018) and Who Do You Think You Are? (2018).

The series started on MTV UK on Wednesday 24th July 2019 at 8pm. Margate will feature in a later episode airing sometime in September 2019. The first episode can still be viewed on MTV player and on NowTV.

The Current War (2019)

The Current War (2019) is an upcoming historical feature and depicts the infamous race between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse, deciding which form of electric current will be powering the modern world.

Edison will be portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, Sherlock) and his rival, George Westinghouse will be played by Michael Shannon (Midnight Special, The Shape of Water). Other cast members include Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice, Alien: Covenant) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War).

The Current War features the Kentish location of Home Farm in Swale, a colonial style weather boarded villa. The exterior doubling for Edison’s residence.

The Home Farm location offers a period feel with a backdrop of flower meadows, woodland and greenery that can be seen from the veranda. This specific location was also starred in The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2017) and Juliet, Naked (2018).

The Current War was released in UK cinemas on Friday 26th July 2019.

Making Noise Quietly (2019)

Making Noise Quietly (2019) is a trilogy showing the effects of war on the lives of ordinary people. The drama follows three main stories with the themes of friendship, grief and peace amid the ravages of war.

The first story is that of conscientious objector Oliver and painter Eric, meeting for a picnic in Kent in the summer of 1945. Over the course of the segment, the two begin to understand each other’s very different perspectives regarding the war.

Part two jumps forward in time to the Falklands war in 1982, when a naval officer visits a mother to tell her that her son has died in the conflict.

The third segment is centred on former soldier, Alan and his young son, Sam, as they meet concentration camp survivor Helene in the Black Forest of Germany in 1986.

This first-time feature film directed by Dominic Dromgoole (Shakespeare’s Globe: A Midsummer Night’s Dream). The Objector, Oliver, is played by Luke Thompson (Dunkirk, Kiss Me First (2018)) and his fried Eric is played by Matthew Tennyson (Pride, Shakespeare’s Globe: A Midsummer Night’s Dream). The naval officer played by Greggory Streatfield, (The Other Boleyn Girl, Kinky Boots) and the grieving mother May is played by Barbra Martin (Causality, Between Two Women). Helene, the concentration camp survivor is played by Deborah Findlay (Vanity Fair, Jane Eyre). The father is played by Trystan Gravelle (AnonymousMr Selfridge) and the film also introduces Orton O’Brien (Christopher Robin, MotherFatherSon) as his young son.

The production filmed in Kent for the first segment of the film and transformed Hadlow College Farm Shop into a 1940’s shop, where Oliver and Eric visit in the film. It is situated in the district of Tonbridge & Malling and was home to the UK’s leading land-based agricultural college. Past productions which filmed here include Horizon: My Amazing Brain – Richard’s War (2018) and Harry Potter: A History of Magic (2017).

Production also filmed at Ightham Mote which is a 14th century moated manor house located in Sevenoaks and was owned by medieval knights, courtiers to Henry VIII as well as high-society Victorians. Sevenoaks with its many stately homes is a popular filming location and hosted productions like Mary Queen of Scots (2019) and Vanity Fair (2018).

Making Noise Quietly first screened at the Lake’s Main House theatre on Sunday 1st July 2018 to raise money for the theatre’s work with young people. It was released in UK cinemas on Friday 19th July 2019.

The Rook (2019)

Based on the 2012 Australian novel of the same name by Daniel O’Malley, this London set show is about a young woman with extraordinary abilities, who is trying to figure out her past while being pursued by paranormal forces.

The show was adapted for the screen by Stephenie Meyer, the author of Twilight, and stars Emma Greenwell (Shameless US, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), Olivia Munn (The Predator, X-Men: Apocalypse) and Adrian Lester (Mary Queen of Scots, Riviera).

The Port of Dover was used in the series when production filmed inside Cruise Terminal Two, outside quayside and along Cruise Terminal 3 (the Western Harbour Arm). Footage was centred around the principle character taking a ferry from Dover.

The Port of Dover is a cross channel ferry terminal and one of the world’s busiest passenger ports, it has made numerous appearances in movies and TV from films such as Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and Johnny English (2003), to TV shows including The Tunnel (2013) and Marcella (2016).

The series will be available to watch on Starz TV on Sunday 30th June 2019.

The Flood (2019)

The Flood (2019) follows the story of an asylum seeker Haile (Ivanno Jeremiah) as he makes a perilous journey to England with his newfound friends Faiz (Peter Singh) and Reema (Mandip Gill). Wendy (Lena Headey), a hardened immigration officer hears his story and must decide his fate. His dangerous trip is recounted through various emotional flashbacks.

The Film Stars Ivanno Jeremiah (Humans, London Unplugged), Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, Danger Mouse), Iain Glen (Game of Thrones, Delicious), alongside Mandip Gill (Doctors, The Good Karma Hospital) and Peter Singh (Gigglebiz, Coronation Street).

The Flood was written by Helen Kingston (Googly, The Carrier) and directed by Anthony Woodley (The Carrier, Outpost 11).

In the film, Joss Bay doubles as an Italian shoreline as Haile crosses the ocean in a boat full of other refugees and lands on the beach. The toilet block also doubles as Italian Port toilets. The Port of Ramsgate is featured as the lorry carrying Haile pulls into passport control.

Joss Bay is a Blue Flag sandy bay in Thanet. Facilities include lifeguards, cafe, parking, toilets, deckchairs, windbreaks, parasols, sun beds and a Kids Corner with bouncy castle and trampolines. It is home to the Joss Bay Surf School. Other productions to film here include Coast Vs Country (2016) and various music videos.

The Port of Ramsgate offers thirty-two acres of dedicated Port Land including three modern Ro-Ro bridges and Water and bunker facilities on all berths. Often used as a ‘stand-in’ for The Port of Dover. Previous productions to have filmed here include Britain at Low Tide – Series 3 (2019), Big Bad World (2013) and Will (2011).

The Flood is due for release on Friday 21st June 2019.

Avengement (2019)

This British crime thriller tells the story of gang member Cain Burgess (Scott Adkins) who evades his prison sentences to take revenge on those who have wronged him. Believing other people are the reason for his misfortunes, he fights his way back to confront his enemies.

Avengement (2019) was directed and written by Jesse V. Johnson (The Amazing Spiderman, Starship Troopers). Starring is Scott Adkins (Doctor Strange, The Expendables 2) as the anti-hero Cain Burgess. Playing his equally vicious brother and prime nemesis is Craig Fairbrass (Cliffhanger, London Heist). Another star among the gang members is Thomas Turgoose (This is England, Kingsman: The Golden Circle).

A large portion of this film was set in Canterbury Prison, where several of the fight scenes were filmed.

Canterbury Prison has been closed since 2013 and was bought by Canterbury Christ Church University and is due to be extended as part of their campus. The authenticity of the Victorian prison is maintained, making it an ideal location for the crime and thriller genre. Other productions that have previously visited Canterbury Prison for filming include Wayfaring Stranger (2008) and Windmill Boy (2006).

The film was released on DVD on Monday 17th June 2019 and is now available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and Google Movies.

The Family Brain Games – Series 1 (2019)

All new prime-time game show series The Family Brain Games, follows eight families as they enter into the specially designed Games Lab to compete in a series of challenges. The families’ mental agility will be tested through observation and analysis by neuroscientist. In the grand final, only one family will be crowned winner of The Family Brain Games. Presenting the show is Dara Ó Briain (Mock the Week, The Look of Love).

Production visited Discovery Park in Sandwich, where the set for the Games Lab was built for the series.

Discovery Park is the former headquarters of the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. It offers large office complexes, scientific laboratories, warehouses and plants, and it is located in Sandwich, a town north of Deal on the Stour Estuary. This location has previously hosted productions for Baptiste (2019), The Lost Commando Raid (2018), and The Tunnel: Sabotage (2016).

Episode One of The Family Brain Games will air on BBC Two on Monday 17th June 2019 at 8pm. The eight-part series will be stripped over two weeks, with four episodes airing per week Monday to Thursday.

The 1900 Island – Series 1 (2019)

In this new BBC 2 series, four families face the challenge of living more than 100 years in the past, attempting to make a living in a fishing community in Llanddwyn, an uninhabited island off the coast of Anglesey. There will be many challenges for the families, including extreme weather conditions, skills shortages and not least family conflict.

Producer and director Alexis Giradet (Earth’s Natural Wonders, Down the mighty river with Steve Backshall) is known for filming in extreme conditions, and The 1900 Island is no different. One of the four families that take part in this series, the Barkers are from Herne Bay, Kent.

In various episodes, the series features the Barker family from Kent. The production visited Herne Bay to interview Clive and Cheryl Barker, before moving them to the remote island.

Herne Bay is a seaside town in Kent, and has also been the site of other productions, including Blue Planet UK Series 1 (2019), and Holiday of my Lifetime with Len Goodman (2016).

The 1900 Island will be airing on BBC 2 on Monday 10th June 2019 at 7pm, and is currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Year of the Rabbit (2019)

Channel 4’s six-part spoof comedy cop show, Year of the Rabbit (2019-2021), is set in Victorian London and follows a group of detectives, including Detective Inspector Rabbit (Matt Berry), ‘a hardened booze-hound’, his partner Wilbur Strauss (Freddie Fox), and the country’s first female law enforcer, Mabel Wisbech (Susan Wokoma). Together the trio fight crime, and bring justice to the streets of the East End.

The series was written by Kevin Cecil (Gnomeo & Juliet, Veep) and Andy Riley (Gnomeo & Juliet, Veep) and directed by BAFTA-nominated Ben Taylor (Catastrophe, Cuckoo). Starring are Alun Armstrong (The Mummy Returns, Sleepy Hollow), Matt Berry (The IT Crowd, Christopher Robin), Freddie Fox (Victor Frankenstein, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword), Jill Halfpenny (Humans, EastEnders), Susan Wokoma (The Inbetweeners 2, Crazyhead), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones, Veep)  and Keeley Hawes (Summer of Rockets, The Bank Job).

Production visited The Historic Dockyard Chatham, where exterior street scenes were filmed and the interior of the Tarred Yarn Store.

The Historic Dockyard Chatham continues to be a popular filming location for production companies to visit. The location offers Georgian and Victorian buildings and authentic cobbled streets. The dockyard has previously featured in Summer of Rockets (2019), Suffragette (2015) and Holmes & Watson (2018).

Year of the Rabbit is due to air on Channel 4 on Monday 10th June 2019 at 10pm.

The Thames: Britain’s Great River With Tony Robinson (2019)

In this new Channel 5 series The Thames: Britain’s Great River With Tony Robinson (2019), presenter Tony Robinson (Britain’s Great Cathedrals with Tony Robinson, Time Team) sets out on a 200-mile journey along the Thames, beginning at the source of the waterway in Gloucestershire, through to its Kent estuary, exploring the history, influence and population of this world-famous river.

Production visited the pier at Queenborough Harbour, located on Isle of Sheppey, as well as at the Redsand (Maunsell) Forts off the shore of Whitstable.

The Isle of Sheppey is an island off the northern coast of Kent and has a variety of beautiful landscapes, such as the Elmley Marshes and coastline. Queenborough is a delightful harbour town on the Isle of Sheppey, with an impressive maritime history. Blue Planet UK (2019) and Celebrity Antiques Roadshow – Series 8 (2018) have previously used Isle of Sheppey as a film location.

Whitstable is a quaint but lively seaside town in East Kent and boasts a shingle beach and harbour as well as modern art galleries, shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Nowadays, Whitstable Harbour also facilitate boat trips to the Maunsell Sea Forts. Previous productions that have filmed here are Celebrity Antiques Roadshow – Series 8 (2018) and Ade at Sea (2014).

Episode One of The Thames: Britain’s Great River With Tony Robinson will air on Tuesday 4th June 2019 at 8pm on Channel 5, and subsequent episodes can be seen every Tuesday for the next four weeks.

As Kent features on the last leg of the river, it is likely to be featured in Episode 4 on Tuesday 25th June 2019.
